Not for nuthin', but the key play in this game is Wong beating a throw by a half-step with two outs and no one on in the top of the eighth. Speed might be a component of this sport.

Just like Matheny drew it up
As bad as he's looked sometimes, he's still a better manager than the dunderhead in the Brewers' dugout.

Yeah, but can he bunt?

With 2 of those stolen base thingies, Wong is now 4 SBs away from the team lead.

Like i said before, mm needs to stick to the book. You dont take holliday out of the game and watcha isnt ready.

I'm not sure I understand where the "Wacha isn't ready" or "Wacha shouldn't be in the bullpen" sentiment comes from. His last 2 outings, both out of the bullpen, were brilliant (3 IP, 7 K). He wasn't very good last night, but with Matheny's post-game disclosure that Rosenthal wasn't available, I'm not sure who people would have rather seen in that situation.

This team needed to add players at the deadline. They didnt. Instead joe kelly went to the rotation. He has done get but now them bullpen is dependant on a very inexperienced pen. it worked in 2006 but those guys were not all in there first mlb year. If the pen falls it falls hard and u can figure on mm helping at all.

I didn't see either of his prior two relief outings, so I was going on only what I saw last night, and I saw a guy who didn't look comfortable. When you've spent your entire life as a starter, suddenly being thrust into a short relief role can be like learning a language when you've been dropped into a foreign country. Some guys - Waino - can adapt to it. Some guys - Kelly - can't.
I might have tried to nurse another inning out of Maness at that point, even if he has to hit in the top of the seventh. At that point, you're trying to protect a lead. Of course, I have the benefit of hindsight.

Also, i was listening on the radio. Broadcast stated that mm must be convinced watcha was ready for high stress situations. I took it to mean that the watcha hadnt been in many high leverage situations.

He hasn't, but of those who were available last night, who had been.
Rosenthal wasn't available. He could have stuck with Maness another inning, but would have needed someone for the 8th. His options were the lefties (Lyons, Siegrist or Choate), Wacha, Butler or Blazek (can't remember which is still with the team), or Mujica for 2 innings.
Maybe Matheny screwed up when he went to Maness in the 6th, but once he did, Wacha was the next best option. He just didn't pitch well last night.

He had to do something. Miller was cooked. That was a real issue. Miller's pitch count continues to be enormous. He needs to come up with another pitch he can throw for strikes. They just spit at his curve, and he might as well send a telegram to the hitter the way he slows down his arm speed with that shitty changeup.

Agreed. I think at times we get too fixated on the inning when we think "high leverage." What's more high leverage, coming in for the 6th with runners on base or starting the 7th with the bases empty?

mm delt with it the best way he could but my point is that the pen is missing a piece. That should have been easy to see before now tho. You cant pull kelly out of the pen and not replace him. what is the deal with rosenthal? Is he just gassed? If so then there is another reason they need bullpen help. Really they have been needing it. You cant have the same 3 pitchers throw 6 nights a week.

Id define it as pitching with the game in your hands.

" what is the deal with rosenthal?"
He had thrown 27 pitches to get 2 outs on Sunday, so he was deemed unavailable for Monday.
