Too funny. Maybe the Pirates should clinh their first .500 season before heading into the playoffs.

Heard on the mlbn yesterday that the cards dont play a team with a winning record the rest of the season after this series. The pirates might want to wait before setting there game one starter.

They go to Pissburgh and Cincinnazi after the current series with TTTIB and then have the Pirates at home.
Starting on Sept. 9, their remaining series are at home against Milwaukee, home against Seattle, at Colorado, at Milwaukee, home against Warshington and home against the team that won't win a World Series for the 105th consecutive season.

Buck is an upgrade from their current backup catcher, but so what?
Byrd gives them a little more pop than Tabata, who ironically has had a pretty good August (.308/.375/.867) ... at least better than the miserable month Jay Bruce (.210/.267/.655) is having. I guess all that MVP talk was distracting.

Oops. Looks like someone in the Mets front office misread the memo and thought it was "Give Away Marlon Byrd Night."

4:41pm: Apparently not content to stand pat after acquiring Marlon Byrd and John Buck from the Mets earlier today, Pirates GM Neal Huntington is now eyeing Twins first baseman Justin Morneau once again, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. He adds that the Yankees, another team once linked to Morneau, aren't currently pursuing the Canadian slugger.
The Bucs were said to have interest in Morneau prior to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, but a dreadful slump from the 2006 AL MVP coupled with a hefty amount of money remaining on his $14MM salary deterred interested parties from striking a deal. Now, Morneau is owed roughly $2.6MM through season's end and has seen his bat come back to life in August, hitting .270/.318/.550 with seven homers and seven doubles on the month.-----MLB Trade Rumors
