Seven years, $126 million.
Matt Holliday ought to re-negotiate ...

I like Werth. Why would he want to play for a shitty team in a non baseball city?

There are probably 126 million reasons.

Seriously, this may rival the Russ Ortiz contract as the worst signing in the history of baseball. At least for a team other than the Yankees.

I was just heading here to post this. Suddenly the Holliday deal looks like a bargain.
Werth's 162 game averages
.272/.367/.481, 25 HR, 85 RBI
Holliday's 162 game averages
.317/.388/.543, 29 HR, 111 RBI
I wonder what Cowboy thinks of this deal? Then again, no I don't.

Werth is a fine player but WTF? Was anyone even bidding on Werth?

Does that mean the Barry Zito contract doesn't rate anymore?

The Diamondbacks paid Ortiz $33 million for five wins. Zito has been horrible, but he's won 40 games while receiving $61.5 million over the past four years.
The Yankees even got nine wins out of Carl Pavano for the $38 million they forked over.

The happiest person in major league baseball has to be Carl Crawford. If Werth is worth $18M for 7 years, how much is Carl Crawford worth?

I was just thinking that. If they had that much money to spalsh around, why not get Crawford? But maybe after about 3 years of fiscal conservatism, MLB is ready to splash some money around once again?
