9/1 GC

There's a good start.

Kris Johnson. Left-handed. Cardinals have never seen him before.

Pirates win 5-1.

I haven't watched since Tuesday. For some reason I'm surprised to see that Freese is still playing.

Does the sun ever shine in Pittsburgh? It feels like there's overcast during every game I watch.

Re: 9/1 GC

It's a good thing when Pete Kozma's spot in the order bats in the 1st, I'd just prefer if someone else hit in that spot.

Now down to .214. I say this in all seriousness, at some point Larussa would stop playing Kozma so as to not allow him to hit below .200. I wonder if Matheny will consider doing the same.

How about a relaxing 13-1 win today?

Did Jackson get called up?

That ball drops in on Beltran.

About five hours a year. And Pittsburgh is a Caribbean resort compared to Buffalo.

I think Memphis is in a playoff race.

Pissa. Let's make sure the Triple A affiliate makes the playoffs after Kozma was 1-for-August.

Edit: 3-for-August.

Blass is rooting for Holliday to hit into a double play with two outs.

Martin is hitting around .900 against the Cardinals this year and Hurdle has his arse on the bench today. His hat is so tight it's beginning to affect his thought processes.

What's even more troubling is the lack of quality in the at bats. He's mostly either striking out or hitting weak groundouts.

Raise your hand if you knew the Pirates retired #33 for Honus Wagner.

Agreed. I can't help but laugh when one of the locals expresses surprise at how bad Kozma is at the plate. They really believed that the 100 at bats last season were more indicative than 4-5 years in the minors. Best fans in baseball my arse.

Not sure if you're serious or not, but didn't Wagner play at a time when numbers were more indicative of position in the field?  Shouldn't he have been #6?

According to the Pirates' broadcasters, he never wore a number as a player, but he later wore #33 as a coach, so that was the number that was retired. I guess Morneau requested #33 and the Pirates told him it was retired, so he's eventually going to switch to #66.

See how much you can learn watching Pirate broadcasts.

He follows Kozma, so his frame of reference may be a tad skewed.
