Just sometimes
He has a runner without great speed stealing third with a 2-2 count on a batter who doesn't always put the ball in play, with the eighth place hitter on deck. Then after the eighth place hitter makes the second out, he sends a pitcher who had thrown 100 pitches up to bat, and then ends up taking out the pitcher one out later.

It's hard to complain about a manager who's taken a team to Game 7 of an LCS and at least to the playoffs in his first two years, but some of the things he does sometimes are so irritating.

There is no doubt the team would be better off if it could open the playoffs with either Pittsburgh or Cincy and with home field throughout the playoffs.

Craig is going to be 30 and unless the Cardinals think his batting average with RISP is a repeatable skill, he doesn't offer much beyond that. Adams probably won't hit for the same average as Craig, but he'll likely hit 15 more home runs. And if the Cardinals could turn a fairly one-dimensional player like Craig into a younger, better option somewhere else, they should take that.
I don't know what Freese fetches at this point. Probably not much.

The only thing keeping Freese in the lineup right now is Wong's .151 batting average. I don't think he has much value.
