9/26 Braves GC

Not much help from Tyler Cloyd and the Phillies so far:
Heyward hit his first pitch of the game about 425 feet and the next three batters have gone single, double, single/E8.
Cloyd has thrown 13 pitches and trails, 3-0.

Re: 9/26 Braves GC

Johnson's double makes it 4-0. That's more runs than the Braves scored in the last three games against the Brewers.
I not hang with this one much longer. I may try to find a movie until the Dodgers/Giants game comes on at 10 p.m.?

There's a football game on in like 20 minutes, but it'll probably be over in 40.

Re: 9/26 Braves GC

Cloyd threw 57 pitches, got three outs and gave up seven runs.
No one's had a worse night in Atlanta since those two schmucks who ran afoul of Ray Lewis and his friends at the Super Bowl.

I can't watch an NFL game in its entirety anymore. The only team I care about is the Raiders, and they usually make me nauseous by halftime.

Re: 9/26 Braves GC

I probably shouldn't be asking this since he's not here to defend himself, but I wonder if Max still thinks the Phillies are the franchise everyone else should emulate?

Not to toot my own horn, but I said back in 2011 that their window would be closed by 2013.

They're the Boston Celtics circa 1990. Too much money tied up in aging players who have health issues.

Re: 9/26 Braves GC

Lincecum looked awful in the first inning,
Brandon Belt is batting third, which should tell you how seriously Bochy is taking this game.

Re: 9/26 Braves GC

And of course Sideshow Bob with his 5.77 ERA mows down the Giants in the bottom of the first like he's Walter Friggin' Johnson.

I thought of Max yesterday, but not in the context of the Phillies. After reading Miklasz's article yesterday about the Cardinals rookie pitchers, I couldn't help but wonder when we were going to start seeing all of those articles about how the Cardinals rushed them to the majors, ruining their confidence and retarding their development.

Looks like Belt was pretty big last night. What do you think of Vogelsong?

I probably beat that drum as much as Max did. I always get concerned about players, especially pitchers, being rushed to the majors before they're ready. I know Dave Duncan is the standard by which all pitching coaches are measured, but Lilliquist deserves some credit for patching together a staff that lost the pitcher who started Game 7 of last year's LCS, its closer in the pre-season, its #3 starter less than halfway through the season.

He's still not a #3 hitter in a half-decent lineup.
I haven't thought of Vogelsong since last year's LCS. Didn't he break his hand when Sandoval sat on it or something?
The Giants vaunted pitching staff may look a lot different next season. Zito has almost certainly pitched his last game in San Francisco, and Lincecum and Vogelsong may not be back. MadBum is the goods, and Cain may have a bounce-back year, but they're going into the off-season looking for arms.

Re: 9/26 Braves GC

I just wanted you to reverse-jinx the Dodgers again since Vogelsong is pitching tonight.

Flew over my head. But I enjoy predicting doom for the Giants in any event.

This seems as good a place as any for my collective Rec on this thread.
