Let's Clinch Gamecrap

This is a nice start

Re: Let's Clinch Gamecrap

I know it's almost October because Freese looks dialed in.

At a football game.
What happened to Travis Wood? Did he really pitch one inning so he could get to 200 for the season and then leave the game?

Re: Let's Clinch Gamecrap

Ha. I hope Dusty and his reprobates packed a couple extra changes of clothes. There's lot of stuff to do in Pittsburgh for six days.

Big outing for El Jefe here ...

Re: Let's Clinch Gamecrap

Well, I'll never complain about 1-pitch 1-out, but I was hoping for a little bit of a longer look.

Back from dinner and "dialed in" myself. Nice game.

Re: Let's Clinch Gamecrap

TK, you're our expert on the wave. Is it supposed to take place while the home team is batting or in the field?

I have no knowledge of such things, but it's very tacky to do it on the night you're about to clinch the division. Oy.

Also, yes, Wood pitched one inning. No idea what the significance of that was.

Re: Let's Clinch Gamecrap

Played in a golf tournament sponsored by a client. Been drinking since noon. Did the Cardinals really announce Wainwright is starting tomorrow?  I'd bet good money he has surgery again during this new contract.

And why is Rosenthal warming in a 7-0 game?

You can't trust a 7-0 lead with Navarro, Schierholtz and Sweeney due up to just anyone.

Re: Let's Clinch Gamecrap

Not sure I would have used Rosie here, surely someone else in a 7-0 ......

Re: Let's Clinch Gamecrap

I don't consider myself too stuffy, but I think t-shirts that say "We own the Central" is a little over the top.

Re: Let's Clinch Gamecrap

You know, you'd think Extra Innings would let me watch the celebrating instead of cutting away to the default screen. It's not like there's another game coming on and they need the channel.

Congrats Cards ... still some unfinished business ahead ...

Either Horton or Hrabosky said they want to get him used to closing out games of significance.

How about "Up Yours, Dusty?"

Re: Let's Clinch Gamecrap

Sculley is over on the Dodgers station contrasting the Cardinals' celebration tonight and the Dodgers' celebration in Arizona. In a way that's favorable to the Cardinals. So I take it the Cardinals didn't jump into a pool.

They're enjoying themselves, but you can definitely tell they've been there before.

Sculley went on for a couple minutes. I think he'd rather be covering the Cardinals.
If there's a discussion in the manager's office tonight about whether the Cards should go for the best record, they ought to turn on the Dodgers game and watch Kershaw carve up the Rockies. They don't want to face him twice in a 5-game series.

Re: Let's Clinch Gamecrap

That's easily the most hard fought division crown in my lifetime. I just keep going back to those stretches in June and late July when they were scuffling and playing terribly, thinking there was no way they take the division.

Except for that 7-game losing streak a couple of months ago, the Cardinals were remarkably consistent. As much as we tend to criticize MM for his occasionaly curious decisions, the body of work his first two seasons as a manager at any level is pretty darn impressive.

I thought they muddled through the summer. Their inability to ever put the ball over the fence in either June or July was partly responsible, but it's looking more and more like it was just a blip in the grind of 162 games.

Save for his decision to run Mujica out there for every marginal save opportunity, I thought he did OK. I still hate his double-switching, bunt-at-all-costs strategies, but when you have a team with this kind of outstanding core, they can cover up those flaws. Texas did it from 2010-2012, but with a lesser team this year they couldn't mask how terrible of an in-game manager Ron Washington was anymore.
