Re: 9/28 GC

It'll never happen, but if Matheny's honest and takes his best 7-8 relievers to the playoffs, Mujica isn't on the roster.

OK, we've done our part. Now c'mon Philadelphia.

Leadoff bunt single leads to two runs in the top of the first. Go Phils!

AL wild card has a good chance of a tie, maybe a three-way.

Rosenthal, Siegrist and Maness are locks. Kelly or Wacha, whomever doesn't start Game 4, will end up in the pen. You can probably take three lefties in 5-game series, so it comes down to which two you want out of Choate, Freeman and Lyons. I'd take Lyons and Freeman, He'll probably take Choate and Lyons. That leaves two more spots for righties. He'll take Axford and Mujica. I'd rather have Axford and Freeman, even if four lefties seems superfluous. It doesn't matter which arm you throw with if you can't get anyone out.

Now, what do we say about a right-handed hitter off the bench? Wainwright on days he doesn't pitch?

What about Carlos Martinez?

For me, it would be

Rosenthal
Maness
Axford
Martinez
Kelly/Wacha
Siegrist
Choate

With the caveat that if we could get home field and play Cincinnati, I would seriously consider 3 lefties.

"What about Carlos Martinez?"

Forgot about him. I'd add him and scratch Lyons.

Re: 9/28 GC

Phillies 5, Braves 4 F

Upton hit a 3-run homer in the 9th and then the Braves had runners and first and second with two outs. Chris Johnson hit a ground ball in the hole and Rollins made a good play to throw him out at first to end the game.
Papelbaum is an asshole.

Re: 9/28 GC

Yep. As shaky as their closer situation's been at times, the Cards can be thankful they're not paying Pap to help them soil their armor.

Re: 9/28 GC

Win behind Westy tomorrow?

Also, do you think the Nats might try and get Zimmerman a win if the situation arises?

Re: 9/28 GC

Be interesting to find out why Pendleton went after Johnson in the dugout, when the game was over .....Maybe MLB network will have an answer later ...

It was a long inning. Maybe he was hungry.

Re: 9/28 GC

Matheny has played the entire season like his hair has been on fire, and with a chance to clinch the NL's best record, he gives the ball to Jake Westbrook. SMDH

There are about a half-dozen active players who if the Cardinals acquired them I would have to question whether I could root for them. Papelbon is one of them. Ortiz. Carlos Gomez. Phillips. Cueto. And ARod.

Makes Pendleton look like a gigantic ass. Seriously, your going to physically confront a player for not hustling the way you want him to hustle?  It's not like Johnson dogged it down the line, and there's no way to know if he'd have been safe if he stayed on his feet.

Stupid.

Re: 9/28 GC

More to the story, apparently: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/braves-coach-terry-pendleton-confronts-chris-johnson-helmet-093623867--mlb.html

It doesn't really make Pendleton look better, but it seems Johnson tends to ignite controversy.
