My statement that the Cardinals have the third best rotation on the NL side was predicated on Lance Lynn having a turnaround. I think the Pirates wrap this up on Monday.

Now he brings in Miller to pitch the eighth inning of a blowout after he warmed up three times, rendering him useless if Kelly or Wacha screw the pooch in Pittsburgh.

With the exception of Game 7 of the '96 LCS, I don't think I've been more discouraged by the Cardinals' performance in a post-season game. Now they have to go to that cauldron with that blood-thirsty crowd and take a game to keep their season alive.

Well with the way Cole was pitching, I'm not sure if Wainright beats him today. It could be that we're just overmatched. We get to try and get one out of Pittsburgh and we'll see if that can happen. In my opinion that lines us up to win in 5, though it's dicey.
That also means we rush into the NLCS having to start at Pitcher #2, maybe rush Wainright for a start in game 3 or 4 and again if we can get all the way out to game 7... Not a good outlook. We really needed this game today.

There's no way he's even remotely responsible for the Cardinals' losing today, but Wally Bell has not had a very good day behind the plate.
