World Series pre-game crap

Weather may be an issue on Wednesday. Forecast right now is calling for a chance of showers and maybe snow flurries. Thursday is supposed to be clear but cold with temps at night in the low 40s.

Lester will start Game 1, according to Farrell.

Will?  If so, did he announce him as the game one winner?

Forecast is a bit better for Wednesday. Showers in the afternoon that should either end or taper to drizzle by first pitch with temps in the upper 40s. The Red Sox put in a new drainage system a few years ago, so if it's not raining like crazy, the field won't be too soggy.
Thursday's forecast is the same: Clear and low 40s.
The unfortunate thing is Sunday night and tonight would have been great nights for baseball. I cooked barbecue on the grill last night. We hit 70 degrees here today, and tomorrow it's supposed to be in the upper 60s. It won't be this warm again here until late April/early May.

I reserve the right to change my opinion over the next 10 days, but Farrell seems like a decent guy. Of course, anyone coming in after Bobby Valentine would seem decent.
No one will say it outright, but they're more than a little worried here about this matchup. Even the hyperbolic Boston Herald, which declared the 2011 Red Sox "the greatest team ever," went with a headline on its back page today that read "Sox should win."
I was talking to one of my few friends who pays attention to other teams and he admitted if Craig can swing a bat, the Red Sox' advantage at home with the DH is effectively neutralized. And the Red Sox will have to bench either Ortiz or Napoli once the series gets to St. Louis.
The galactically-stupid are throwing 2004 in my face, but the only players who played in that series and will play in this one are Ortiz and Yadi. It's almost the same as me throwing 1967 and 1946 in their faces.

Re: World Series pre-game crap

Nothing really new with the weather forecast. Any rain should be light and end just before or around the start of the game.

In another development, today is "Red Sox Day" at my son's school, and the dress code was relaxed to allow the kids to wear hats. Zach wore a Cardinals cap.

Re: World Series pre-game crap

Should be a great series. I don't see us taking a clear disadvantage in either tonight or tomorrow nights games with the pitchers we're running out there. Craig to me is a wildcard. I know he's a great hitter, but he's a great hitter that hasn't been in a batters box in a game in a long while now, and certainly not against playoff pitchers. There's a timing element that I would assume is a little off. However, he's a vast upgrade to batting the pitcher, or any other bench player, so I'll certainly take it.

I still feel the same as I did right after the LA series. There's no way to be scared of boston after getting through Ryu, Nolasco, Grienke, Kershaw. We'll see how it plays itself out.

Re: World Series pre-game crap

Goold:

BOSTON • The Cardinals will finalize the obvious this morning when they submit their 25-man roster for the World Series with Allen Craig available and starting tonight’s Game 1 at designated hitter.
Craig, who has been out for more than six weeks with ligament damage in his left foot, ran the bases at Fenway Park during an afternoon workout on the eve of the 109th World Series. He has intensified his workouts with each passing day, and manager Mike Matheny said the cleanup hitter did enough to “pass his last test” and join the roster. To make room on the 25-man roster the Cardinals dropped outfielder Adron Chambers.
Matt Adams will start at first base at Fenway Park. Mozeliak said that the weather will determine if Craig attempts to work out in the field before Games 1 and 2. The Cardinals have not ruled out starting Craig at first base when the series shifts to National League rules at Busch Stadium.

Rookie Michael Wacha, who clinched the National League pennant and the NL championship series MVP award in his previous game, will start Game 2 of the World Series. Matheny announced the assignment Tuesday. The Cardinals have won all three of Wacha’s starts in the postseason, and including his final start of the regular season, the rookie righty has allowed one run and nine hits in 29 2/3 innings. He’s struck out 31. Wacha, 22, visited Fenway with Team USA while in college but did not pitch at the 101-year-old ballpark.

John Hirschbeck will serve as crew chief for the World Series and will be behind the plate for Game 1 tonight at Fenway Park. Hirschbeck’s crew will include Mark Wegner, Dana DeMuth, Paul Emmel, Bill Miller, and Jim Joyce.

Re: World Series pre-game crap

I know i am a cardinals fan but i like the odds.  I see these teams as even.  Maybe the cards are slightly better.  They just have to hit.

Re: World Series pre-game crap

Looks like the rain will stay just to the south of Boston. But it's cold.
