Re: Freese to Anaheim?

As well as Carpenter did as a leadoff hitter last year, I think the Cards are wasting an element of Bourjos' value if they don't use him at the top of the order.
With his knowledge of the strike zone, I think Carpenter would make a great 2-hole hitter behind a player with speed.

It's a pretty big deal, AP. The Cardinals upgraded defensively at three positions, instantly add more speed and relegate Jay to a bench role that he's best suited for long term. There's still work to be done, but as it stands on Nov. 22, the Cardinals are in really good shape.

Upgrade at 3 positions?  U mean u see rf and lf as upgraded because of a better cf or are u in the camp that says this makes craig or adams expendable?  I see this as adding a 4th outfielder.  Maybe he wins the cf job.  Maybe jay does.  Wrist surgary is a pretty big deal for a baseball player.  Maybe the plan is that tavarez start in triple a.  This is just an option at this point.  They did trade for an everyday player.

I suspect he's thinking CF is an upgrade (Bourjos over Jay), 3B is improved (Carpenter over Freese) and 2B is better (Wong over Carpenter).

This trade didnt effect the last 2 things from happening.  Wong and carp were already lined up for those positions.

Yep, we will see how the offseason plays out but this is a pretty good start.  What has been brought up is the the cards saved 4 million bucks

The cost savings probably is irrelevant this year because, unless they trade for Tulowitzki, there isn't a SS on the market who could justify a salary that would get them close to last season's salary.

Although, if the Cardinals wanted to get really aggressive, they could try to swing a deal for Chase Headley, leave Carpenter at 2B, and then go get a SS. Coming off a down season, and 1 yea away from free agency, the Padres could be looking to move Headley.

Let's play with a possible lineup

2B- Carpenter (L)
3B- Headley (S)
LF- Holliday (R)
1B or RF- Craig (R)
1B or RF- Adams or Taveras (L)
C- Molina (R)
SS- Hardy (R)
CF- Bourjos (R)
P

Wouldn't that be fun?

It iwnt going to happen but i liked the idea of granderson at cf alot.  Him and carp setting the table for holliday, craig and adams would have been awesome.  In any event, the cardinals are improving in speed and defense.  That will be welcome.
