Since they are fairly close to being wrapped up, I figured I'd break down the locks:
IF: Allen Craig, Matt Adams, Kolten Wong, Jhonny Peralta, Matt Carpenter
C: Yadier Molina
OF: Matt Holliday, Peter Bourjos, Jon Jay
SP: Adam Wainwright, Michael Wacha, Shelby Miller, Lance Lynn
RP: Randy Choate, Kevin Siegrist, Seth Maness, Trevor Rosenthal
Probable
Joe Kelly, Jaime Garcia
On the Bubble
Carlos Martinez, Oscar Taveras, Pete Kozma, Daniel Descalso, Tony Cruz, Shane Robinson
It'll be interesting to see how they work the bullpen. Kelly, who was a closer in college, may actually be better suited for starting, but is he a better starter than Carlos Martinez? With Jason Motte out until late spring, is Martinez going to spend 2014 in the bullpen? What happens to Jon Axford? The bullpen seems a little unsettled, save for Rosenthal and the two lefties.
How do they settle the infield? I think they're looking outside the organization for someone that can help protect Wong. Matheny is a huge Kozma fan, and he is a solid defender. I think they target a Ryan Roberts, Willie Bloomquist, etc. to be their utility infielder and part ways with Descalso, sticking with Kozma as their glove man. I'd love to see them make a play for Mike Morse, but doubt that they share my interest.

I think garcia is a lock for the rotation unless he sucks. I could also see them moving him at somepoint. That would be my advise. Also i think craig is going to get most his playing time in rf. Idk why this board (fors, tk) shy away from that idea. They have never worried about craigs outfield time. They have played berkman and beltran out there in recent years. I believe craig was shagging flys in the ws. The fo and MM believe he can play the position.
I look for the team to do nothing more. I think they will go into the season like this and address any concerns with a mid season trade. That gives a chance for some guys like motte and garcia to prove they are healthy. I also think mo is reluctant to deal from a surpluse untill he knows he has a surpluse. Softmore years can be rough and the injury bug has bit the cardinals early the last 2 years.
I also think they the cardinals can use peralta as insurance against wong by moving him to third and carp back to second. That puts kozma back at short but as tk said, mm seems to trust him.

3b carp

Rf craig
Lf holliday
C molina
1b adams
Cf jay/bourjos
2b wong
Bn cruz
Bn jay/bourjos
Bn kozma
Bn descalso
Bn robinson, later un the year tavarez
Sp wainwright
Sp garcia
Sp wacha
Sp lynn
Sp miller
Bp kelly
Bp rosenthal
Bp seigrist
Bp choate
Bp maness
Bp axford
Bp martinez, motte, butler, butler, freeman, gast, lyons
I see the main battle in sprimg being martinez and kelly for a starter spot against lynn. I am unsure if they retain axford. I think they should because there needs to be some age in the pen. So there is 1 or 2 bullpen slots up for grabs between about a dozen pitchers.

"Also i think craig is going to get most his playing time in rf. Idk why this board (fors, tk) shy away from that idea."
My issue isn't whether he can play RF--I think he's more than capable of being at worst an average outfielder. My issue is whether he can stay healthy playing the outfield on an everyday basis given that he missed time during the last 2 seasons with separate knee and foot injuries.
I'd rather have a healthy Allan Craig for 160 games at 1B than an oft-injured Allan Craig playing 100 games in RF. That's my only concern.

They're apparently going to let Nathan Axford Forrest walk and try to sign him at a cheaper salary. He made $5 million last year and one website projects he would be awarded $5.7 million in arbitration. I imagine his return depends upon how much the Cardinals offer and how much he likes playing in St. Louis.
I think we all liked what we saw after he came to St. Louis, and there's always interest in a guy who can throw a 97 mph fastball, but obviously there's no way the Cardinals are going to pay that much for a setup guy with an unreliable breaking pitch and a brittle psyche.

Yeah he is pretty over paid at that price when ur looking at all the replacement u could have for him play for less then a million. Id like to see him back tho. Motte 7.5 million contract is looking bad as well.

I understand the arguement. I dont really diagree but i think the club does. I dont think they have jay and bourjos both starting. I hate that idea as well.

I agree AP. I never thought the organization had concerns about playing Craig in the outfield. Those concerns were always mine,

Not just yours. There does seem to be a certain whistling-past-the-graveyard mentality about Craig playing 162 games in RF next season. Let's wait until he goes an entire season without a trip to the DL before we notify Cal Ripken Jr. that his streak might be in jeopardy.
