Olympics...

Am I the only one that completely couldn't give a shit?

I can't pretend to be a fan of figure skating, skiing, curling, snowboarding, luge, bobsledding, or anything else other than an interest in the ice hockey. I don't follow anything else for 3 years 10 months at a time, I don't see the point of pretending I care for those other 2 months or I'm not patriotic.....

Just curious if it was just me...

Re: Olympics...

It has been on at my house but i havent really got into it.  Sometimes i enjoy it but nothing has been on tho interest me.  Long jumping, figure scating and womens hockey.  I find all to be remarkable as far as the skill level it takes to do the events.  From my stand point one jump looks the same as the rest.

Re: Olympics...

I'll watch the men's hockey when it starts. And I confess to an middling interest in curling, but that's mostly because three of the four women on the US and A's team in Vancouver were at least reasonably attractive. Three of the four chicks on the Sochi team are sows, so I probably won't watch.
The rest of it? Nahhh.

Re: Olympics...

It isn't just you.

I'll be the first to admit, I hate any "sport" that involves judges.  I like boxing matches that end when one guy can walk out of the ring and the other guy isn't sure what city he's in, but I can't stomach things like figure skating, snowboarding, gymnastics or anything where I can't objectively tell why one participant beat the other.

That said, we've watched some of the skiing, probably because I think you have to be half-crazy to fly 80+ mph down a slope of ice.  But admittedly, part of me is watching to see someone crash.

It takes crazy skill to do that stuff.  But im like you.  If i flip it on it has my attention for about 10 minutes and then im done.  Each one looks the same as the last.  They had double figure skating on the other night.  I watch for a bit and really, it is impressive the stuff they do.  Idk how they do it.  It maybe be a sissy "sport" but ill admitt it is impressive that humans can do it. However if u watch 5 minutes u have seens as much as ur going in an hour,

Re: Olympics...

Impressive win today by the US. I felt bad for Halak. The Slovaks couldn't have played much worse defense in the 2nd period.

Re: Olympics...

Russia got hosed on what should have been its third goal, and I hate deciding games in shootouts, but in a short tournament like this, two points are huge. Way to get it done, T.J. Oshie.

Based on the rule, it appeared the refs got it right. The goal was out of place. The US was really lucky there.

It takes a huge set of balls to keep going out there and taking shootout attempts. Oshie's looked like he was having fun.

I can't decide if I like the triple salchow, triple lutz, triple axle, or triple toe loop the best ...

Which is the one that's most likely to induce a wardrobe malfunction in a women's costume?

Twizzles. It's all about the twizzles.

Is that a skating term, or are they eating licorice on the ice?

The answer to that question would require far more interest than I possess.

Switching gears a bit, there have been many over-hyped olympic athletes over the years, but if you're compiling a list, Lolo Jones has to be near the top.

Either the double galshow, the nipple whoa oops, or the rip 'n' azzshow.

Just a different way of giving you a rec.

Ugh. Don't even get me stahhhtid, as they say around here. And it's never her fault. She's loses because her shoes were too tight, or the weather was too humid, or she was running a fever of 98.7 degrees.
And what especially drives me crazy is she became a media whore, actively seeking every last ounce of publicity, and then every time she loses she claims there was too much pressure put on her. I've never rooted against Americans in the Olympics, with the exceptions of Carl Lewis and Lolo Jones.

Maybe it's just me, but I figure naked, full-contact women's figure skating would probably draw a lot more viewers.

Re: Olympics...

Lolo and her teammate finished 11th. Can't wait to hear what the excuse is. Her fingers were probably too cold to push the bobsled.

Depends on the participants.  The female half of the US team that won the Ice Dancing gold medal has about the same figure as my 13 year old son.

The ice was more slippery than she expected.

Re: Olympics...

Well the moment is nearly upon us... The entire Olympics summed up in one competition. A moment that I don't have to pretend has interest to avoid looking like I hate America.

The United States vs Canada in the men's hockey semifinals. The only goddamned event I can be brought to watch and care about, and the pinnacle of world superpowers coming together to rematch the gold medal match from 2010.

That didn't go so well.

After the women jumped ahead 2-0, the US hockey teams went a combined 80 scoreless minutes against Team Canada.  Tough to have much success if you don't score.

Re: Olympics...

Have to give credit to Canada for being the better team today. But I think they're playing the best team in the tournament on Sunday.

Re: Olympics...

Does anyone else remember how they used to weight the medal counts (Gold = 3, Silver = 2, Bronze = 1) when publishing the "standings"? Wonder why they stopped that.
