The team claims it's a shoulder strain, but I'm guessing whiplash.
The Cardinals announced changes to their pitching staff on Tuesday, recalling left-handed pitcher Sam Freeman and right-handed pitcher Jorge Rondon from Memphis. The team also announced that left-handed pitcher Tyler Lyons (left shoulder strain) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list and that right-handed reliever Eric Fornataro was optioned to Memphis.
Freeman, 26, who has appeared in 37 combined games (1-2, 4.18 ERA) with the Cardinals over the 2012 and 2013 seasons, was 0-1 with a 3.78 ERA in 13 games (16.2 IP) for Memphis this season. The 6-1, 165-pound lefty has allowed just two earned runs (1.50 ERA) over his last 10 appearances dating to April 12, striking out 16 batters in 12.0 IP.
Rondon, 26, who has spent eight-plus seasons in the minors, will be making his Major League debut with his first game appearance. The Calabozo, Venezuela native is a product of the Cardinals former Venezuelan Summer League team where he began his professional career in 2006 after signing as a non-drafted international free-agent in July of that year.
The 6-1, 215-pound Rondon was 1-0 with a 2.51 ERA in 11 games (14.1 IP) at Memphis this season. He has not allowed an earned run in his past five games (8.0 IP) since April 25.
Freeman will wear uniform no. 71 and Rondon will wear no. 68. Both players as expected to be in uniform for tonight’s game against the Chicago Cubs.

C'mon, AP. You can't get greedy when the Cardinals are batting against a stud like Jake Arrieta, who gave up nine hits and three runs in four innings against the White Sox.

Wainwright seems to be afflicted tonight with the same allergy to the strike zone as Miller and Lynn.

That was weird.

I'll say it again: Peter Bourjos is a swift human being.
Call for the steal, Mike.

What was the thing with Bourjos running to third on a ball not in play?

It seems to be a cardinals trend for closers to pick up saves evsn tho they are not passing the eye test. This was on rosenthals first BS.

I gave up when it headed into extras. Walk off HBP. If there is such a thing. I miss the 2hr carpenter games. Every game you watch the broadcast crew complains about the speed of the game. Shannon has a nightly come apart, mostly directed at the umps for not calling strikes. There was nobody in the stands in the 9th inning. Nobody. Instead of dicking with the exchange rule, replay and home plate collisions why dont they do something, anything to make these games more watchable. Viewing these low scoring 4 hr games is not even baseball. I like baseball but only if i can actually get into the game. The pitch selection, lineup moves and so on. My attention span isnt strong enough to focus through 30 minute innings where no runs are scored and not even alot of hitting. It is just boring. Then you listen to the broadcast crew cry about the speed of the game 3x a night. They are getting paid to announce. I am just a guy on my couch. I dont see how baseball isnt in a steep decline. This is just not what baseball is supposed to be.
