Good Lord.... terrible seventh inning for Cincinnati.

Also there's a really hitter friendly score keeper there....

Wainwright is proving that you don't have to throw 95+ to dominate. When his command is as good as it has been most of the season and you have his arsenal of pitches, the hitters almost have no chance.

Re: 5/25 gamecrap

Wainwright is a pitcher in every sense.  His curve is awesome but other then that his stuff is average.  If you watch him for an inning you might wonder how he does it.  If you watch the whole game you understand.  He mixes it up so well.

Having said that i pull him right now.  He just had a long game his last outing.  He is over 100 pitches tonight.  Id pull him now so i didnt have to keep him in the game for the 9th to finish the shutout.

Re: 5/25 gamecrap

Well, it's harsh to say average. His fastball is definitely not overpowering, but his cutter and sinker are plus pitches. He's not as good as peak Maddux, but he's the same sort of pitcher. What's amazing is that over the past two seasons, Wainwright has gotten even better from where he was during 2009-2010, when he was already an elite pitcher.

We are lucky to have him.

Re: 5/25 gamecrap

Wainwright learned from guys like Carpenter and even Pujols that it's one thing to be great and it's another to be great and to keep working to be better.

A lot has been made about Wainwright studying video this offseason and learning that he wasn't working both sides of the plate and he committed himself to making that improvement. If a pitcher can keep a hitter guessing between out and in, keep the hitter off balance with a constant change of speed and then throw the ball where he wants more often than not, it's almost unfair. The Greg Maddux comparison is a good one. If Wainwright isn't at that level, he isn't far from it.

That's 9-3 so far in this big stretch of home games. If they can manage to win each of these next 3 series, the worst they end up is 15-6. Nothing wrong with that.
