5/27 Gamecrap

Jeter was a great player, but good grief with the standing ovations.

Hopefully Wong doesn't get sent down for getting too big of britches.

There are balls leaving the yard. Hopefully Mabry is OK.

Re: 5/27 Gamecrap

Who in the Hell was on the mound there? Had Lynn's jersey on but pitched a complete game shutout with three walks, so it couldn't have been Lance...

He have a brother with command?

There's something about Lynn I just don't understand.  His WHIP is only 1.26 which is good, and he's only walked 23 in 69 innings which isn't great, but isn't awful either (Wacha has walked 19 in 67 innings and Miller 30 in 56.2 innings).  But having watched him pitch it feels like the numbers should be worse.

He isn't efficient, but he's effective.

And kudos to Lynn for wanting to finish the game last night and to Matheny for giving him the chance.

MM didn't really have a choice, but I hope all those pitches don't impact his next start.
And I saw Kelly back in the dugout last night. That mustache makes him look like a bad pimp.

Re: 5/27 Gamecrap

A few more Lance Lynn factoids.

Lynn is now 39-19 in his 2 1/2 seasons as a starter.  When this season ends, the Cardinals will have paid him only $1.53M during his 3 seasons as a starter.  Lynn become arbitration eligible for the first time this coming off-season and the Cardinals still have 3 seasons of control.

There isn't anything about Lynn that's exciting, but the guy goes out and pitches 200 innings and wins ballgames.  The Cardinals have received exceptional value from a guy they tried really hard to move this past off-season.

Re: 5/27 Gamecrap

Lynn is a soild 4 or 5 rotation pitcher.  There are probably plenty of teams who wish they had him right now.  He downfall is his slumps and burning out toward the end of the year.  I dont think the cards will keep miller, kelly, garcia and lynn for all of 2014...i definately think by 2015 they will be minus one of those guys

I agree with you, assuming the Cardinals receive what they want in return.  Moz showed last off-season he's perfectly happy maintaining a surplus and isn't going to trade someone for less than value.  Baltimore tried, and now they're still stuck with JJ Hardy who has yet to hit his first HR this season.

Re: 5/27 Gamecrap

Well. Lynn was doing something really well last night. He's got a sinker, but yesterday he was mixing in a breaking pitch (slider/curve) to keep people honest and off good contact on that sinker. Very proud of the effort he's been making so far. 6-2, 3.13 ERA and a 3/1 (nearly) K/BB ratio. On his first two starts he gave up 8 runs, all earned (he went 2-0 on these games, but that's not good). Since then (9 more starts), he's given up 16... I will stop calling for his dismissal, he's pitching very well.

He can't play shortstop anymore. He probably should have been moved to another position years ago, but at least he used to be able to make the routine plays. And what's mystifying is the Yankees have a great defensive shortstop they could use in the late innings, and they're putting him at first base.
Girardi must be aspiring to Dunderhead Boob status.

Re: 5/27 Gamecrap

Well .... Jeter .... I wouldn't want to be Girardi trying to make that call... Might be best for the team, but god what a fiasco that could turn into.

Gehrig finally pulled himself out and ended his streak, his manager didn't. I believe Ripken did too. Sometimes a player has earned it, I'd let Jeter do what he wants. He's a pro. He knows what the team is capable of with him on or off the field. He'll tell Girardi to make the move.
