Ummm... did we just allow Martinez to hit for himself, and then lift him for a rookie pitcher to start the following inning? Starting to wonder about Methany some days.
MM got confused because there wasn't a double switch involved.
Seriously, I think the bench tonight consists of Ellis, Bourjos, Descalso and Cruz, and he won't use Cruz because Matheny Commandment #3 is The Reserve Catcher Shall Not Play Unless The Other Team Is Up By At Least 10 Runs.
Which means Jaime Garcia is the best available pinch-hitter tonight.

Well, the Cardinals won what normally would have been a Wainwright start . I'll take it. Got enough production in between Carp and Wong, especially the 5th inning, and the department of pitching held on .
