An 8-18 record has lessened the Cards chances for just about all these, some more than others. Here are my thoughts:
Cy Young: Wainwright has all but frittered away his Cy Young. His last 3 (4?) starts would have to be very strong, I would guess, to put him back to front runner status.
ROTY: Garcia is probably close to being frontrunner now/still after the last, horrible, start. He needs to get back to his ERA <2.5 ways for his last three-ish starts.
MVP/Triple Crown: Albert makes sense for MOP, but MVP could go to a playoff bound team. Triple Crown is looking almost impossible; he's now 0.025 points back in BA (6th overall), 1st overall in HR and RBI, (but only 2nd overall in OPS, and this might count when some try to give the MVP to Votto).
Playoffs: Taking first place in mid-August and going 8-18 is just unbelievably Wrigleyian. La Russa put it best when asked what his experience taught him about how to get out of this tailspin; he said something like: you don't stay in this game very long if you have lots of experience with situations like this one.

Agreed.
I don't think Wainwright has a shot at CY. Right now he probably isn't in the Top 3 (Jiminez, Halladay and maybe Latos)
MVP race is between Votto and Carlos Gonzalez. Pujols finishes 3rd.
Garcia is in good position to win ROY unless a late push by Posey or Heyward helps their team reaches the playoffs. It shouldn't matter, but my guess is that if one of thos guys carries his team to the playoffs it will resonate with the voters.

he goes all Wainwright and implodes for his final few starts, as he did on the previous one.

Anyone else think Heyward has Joe Morgan's vote locked up?

More importantly, who gave Joe Morgan a vote?

No one, I hope. But the way Morgan was talking about Heyward last night, you'd think they were going to go to Massachusetts to get married.

Hey Artie what is that red X under your name? The picture doesnt show up on my computer.

Hell, was that game on ESPN? I thought national TV had given up on the Cards for this season. I guess it was the last Cox / La Russa match-up that drew them?
So, when Joe Morgan was talking up Heyward, did anyone else in the booth mention Garcia?

"did anyone else in the booth mention Garcia?"
Yes, and favorably. One of them said there ought to be two separate awards for rookie player of the year and rookie pitcher of the year, with Garcia winning the latter this season.

I imagine there will be one day. But Garcia has a very good chance to beat out people like Heyward and Posey if his last few starts are strong.

One other variable to consider is whether or not Garcia gets a "few more starts." The Cardinals are 6 out with 21 games to go. If they are 6 or more out 10 games from now, it might makes sense to shut down Garcia for the rest of the year. Assuming 2 starts of average length, he probably finishes the season with 170 IP. I seemed to remember they were targeting him for somewhere in the neighborhood of 150.
If either Posey or Heyward makes a big push to get his team into the playoffs, and Garcia is sitting idle, I think Garcia would be in trouble. But even it that's the case, I'm not sure I can see them pushing his inning total for the sake of individual accomplishment--nor do I think it would be wise.
Garcia may have only 2 more starts to prove he deserves the award. Here's hoping he throws a good one tonight.

You'd think so Don, but how often has this team lost to a pitcher it should beat?

I think you copy and paste the normal way. Your link may not have worked as well since it covered 2 lines. Or maybe because it came from Twitter rather than the original story.

Refer to the "cheat sheet" at the very bottom of the screen. I can't show you the syntax because it gets interpreted as a link and the prefix/suffix disappear.

Thanks , I'll try again later .
I'm not exactly computer smooth to begin with, so hope this board is patient with my ignorance .

Yeah just copy and paste the "URL" captiopns and put your link inbetween.
<
The same rule applies to images, quotes or if you want to add bold or underlined lettering.
Expect the link doesnt lead you anyplace. Or at least it didnt me.

I think there was a copy and paste symposium on the Cubs board a few years back. Too bad you missed it, Rob. LOL!!

. . . and down the stretch here, how many times have we lost with one of our "good pitchers" on the mound?
There was a time, earlier in the season, when they were continually referring to the Cards won-loss record in games started by Carp, Wainwright, and Garcia . . . and it was impressive. I'll bet if you go back to the end of the series with Cincy in mid-August, that stat looks HORRIBLE.

That was the second of three instructional sessions on the Cubs' board, the first being "How walks and hits affect WHIP," and the third being "Behavioral Science with Adorable Gracie."
I don't think the "Big Ben is a Clock?" discussion ever rose to the level of a tutorial.

I think Carlos Gonzalez (CarGo) is getting tired of carrying the Rockies (errr)

Cardinals are skipping Garcia again
