When does he become good?
Sometime after he has more than eight pro starts? He really needs more time in Memphis.
Ideally, he would have spent the entire season there. He's not getting better.

You mean "more than eight ML starts", right? But, yeah - more AAA experience might be the ticket.

I fear Matheny hasn't the capacity to learn from his mistakes.
In his defense, he's a bit hamstrung when the starter only gives him four innings. But that's part of the problem, too. Every Martinez game follows the same pattern - he throws way too many pitches to get too few outs. I know the kid is 22 and he's been a starter for about a month, but maybe try something different? With pitch selection? Throw more fastballs earlier in the count so he's working ahead? I don't know. But don't have Martinez go out there with the same game plan and then have to patch together the last 4-5 innings because it's taken him 85 pitches to get a dozen outs.

Too big a lead. He was trying to get a jump in case Carpenter put the ball in play. The baserunning was pretty horrendous tonight. In the eighth, Bourjos got a bad jump and was out at second until Gordon dropped the ball. And Bourjos continues to slide too late. He comes off the bag almost every time.

And miller? I sort of sick of every cardinals prospect. They cant all be winners but it seems they could sell high on alot of them

It's going to take some time. Fans see Wacha and other young starters and then get frustrated when Martinez doesn't take off or Miller regresses, but the truth is that guys like Wacha are the exception. As frustrated as we are with Miller and Martinez, when Adam Wainwright was their age, he was struggling in Memphis and was on no one's radar as anything other than a back-end guy years down the road.
The worst thing the Cardinals could do is give up on them.
