Re: 7/20 Gamecrap

I guess that depends on if trading for david price is considered giving up.

Re: 7/20 Gamecrap

Well, if it's for someone like Price, then obviously you make that deal, but I still don't think the Rays want to trade Price. They still aren't out of the race (currently on a 16-5 run and 7 1/2 out), plus they would have him for another year. I think those guys in a trade for an elite talent (Tulo, Stanton, Hamels) are no-brainers. But for nothing less.

I know Mattingly is upset, but you can't eject a pitcher for being wild.

Yeah there it is. I was wondering how much play the beanballs were going to get in here.

I'm having a long running argument with a coworker who says, "Sometimes you just miss", and every pitcher can lose one like the pitch to Ramirez.

Personally I only agree with this to a point, there are many arms in St. Louis that are capable of missing by this much. Namely, anyone not named Adam Wainright. If Wainright misses his location by four feet, I'm much more inclined to believe it wasn't a miss, but an assault. He might hit a batter, but he won't ear-hole them. He just doesn't miss like that.

However with Carlos Martinez winging it 98 with the movement he has??? I'm shocked he hasn't killed someone yet to be perfectly honest.

Apparently a lot of Dodger fans cannot tell the difference between Carlos Martinez, and Kershaw/Wainright type pitchers. Kershaw drilling Holiday however was a signature testimony to the control these guys have. I'm throwing at a guy first pitch, who can likely suspect it's coming, and he's still not going to be able to avoid it....

Do the Dodgers have to bitch about everything?

.... I'm torn on this. While I understand how wild Carlos Martinez is, he's going to get someone killed throwing like that. Either by plunking someone, or having his teammates dealing with the fallout.

I think we've plunked Ramirez three times now going back to the playoffs last year. One broke his ribs and knocked him out of the postseason, and then this head-hunting job. I imagine it's getting pretty old if you're cheering for Dodger Blue, and to be honest I totally understand. I think we'd be showing up to the ballpark with weapons if it was the other way around. If something like this was to happen between us and a divisional rival, there'd be brawls every game...

When I wrote this, it was while Mattingly was flapping his arms like a goose, trying to get Rosenthal kicked out of the game (which, of course, did not happen, and turned out to a decisive factor in the Dodgers winning the game).
It's not just about Hanley getting hit. I understand they're upset about that. It's about Kershaw showing up the umpire when he doesn't get a borderline strike. It's about Kemp and Hanley showing up the umpire everytime a borderline pitch is called a strike when they're at the plate. I think Kemp thinks there's some kind of ordinance in L.A. County that prevents the umpire from calling a strike without his permission.
Let's not foget the only pitcher who hit a batter on purpose last night was Clayton Kershaw.
Maybe the Dodgers are testy because their $300 million lineup got shut down on Friday and Saturday by a couple of pitchers who make what their personal assistants make on an annual basis. Or that they brought their toy bubble machine to St. Louis and didn't get a chance to use it because they went the entire weekend without hitting a home run.

Re: 7/20 Gamecrap

Not that i want anyone to get hurt but this sort of stuff makes the game more exciting.  A stl/lad playoff series would be pretty interesting.
