This is why people have doubts about him. Rubby walks Peralta and then Pierzynski, the latter on four pitches, which according to the Red Sox' announcers is next to impossible, and then Taveras swings at the first pitch.

Swinging at the first pitch there isn't the worst thing. Holliday has said he'll swing in that scenario because the pitcher is just trying to groove a strike. The problem was the pitch. He was too jumpy.

Yeah, I understand that argument, but I don't always agree with it. Holliday has 10 zillion at bats in his career and he won't swing at a borderline pitch. An inexperienced player has to take a strike there.

Taverez is young. Im sure he will learn. Id just let him do that. The cardinals as a whole could be more free swinging imo.
