Lynn can be frustrating at times, but that was a big win today. It's one thing to go into another good team's park and lose 2 of 3. It's a whole other story to go there and get swept (and get killed in the process).
That's 45 wins and counting in less than 3 years as a starter.

He really has been consistent this year, and aside from those big innings, all of his career.
Wasn't it mentioned here that he was offered to Cleveland a few years ago (he was still in the minors) and they passed?

He may have been one of the guys they offered for Mark DeRosa and the Indians took Chris Perez instead.

I believe you're right. I remembered they took Perez instead but couldn't recall who the Cards were trading for.

I recall being very disappointed at the time that they lost Perez, and my feelings weren't assauged much when DeRosa left at the end of the season after spending most of his time with the Cardinals on the disabled list. Perez's subsequent antics and his inability to perform consistently as a closer have made the trade look a little better. It turns out La Russa's evaluation of Perez's ability was correct - he's an OK setup guy, but he'll drive you crazy if you let him pitch the ninth inning.

Not saying Lynn wasn't part of that, but for some reason I thought the choices were Perez or Motte and the Cardinals (i.e., Duncan) didn't want to part with Motte.

Derosa never was healthy with the cards but dumping perez turned out okay.

The cards got him for 3 more years before he is a FA. Not a bad deal.

It very well could have been. Your memory is better than mine.

I've hated Lynn from day 1. I will freely admit however, that I have no reason to. It just seems like everytime I watch him pitch, it's a disaster. Apparently he throws lights out every time I'm not watching him pitch.

He's been the Cardinals best pitcher over the past two months. His ERA for July was under 2.00. He's still prone to throwing more pitches than he needs to, and I'd be a lot more comfortable if he was the #3 starter and not the #2 starter, but I feel pretty good when I know he's throwing that night, and I haven't been able to say that so far in his career.
