It's fucking unbelievable, isn't it? The moment the game enters a save situation, Matheny's response is almost Pavlovian.

I cant believe this team is being managed so poorly. Maybe MM is getting kickbacks formsupporting players arbitration cases...there has to be a reason im overlooking. It defies logic.
 

In a little bit of a defense, the stalwarts he relied on last year aren't pitching nearly as well as they did last year, and Motte's return hasn't bolstered the bullpen anywhere near the way he was expected to.
But that's managing. You have to deal with that stuff. The composition of a baseball team, especially a bullpen, is a constantly fluid situtation. MM does a pretty good job with the position players, but when it comes to the bullpen, he keeps trying to ram the same pegs into the same holes, even though the pegs and the holes are constantly changing shapes.
