9/2 GC

Let's disregard the idea that Wainwright needed Molina. He just needs to skip a start.

Common theme.

MM waits untill guys are near death before giving them rest.  He could have skipped wainwright a start and maybe he wouldnt have thrown 3 clunkers.  Bailed on masterson sooner.  Not over used rosenthal.  Those decisons alone would have saved the cardinals several games.  Not to mention giving the regulars timely rest would have likely increased production from both the bench and regular lineup.  These are not hindsight things.  People have been screaming for this.  Righting the same names on a line up card every night is not managing.

Did a Cardinals' pitcher actually pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning? Did I really see that?

The Cat just said that Mozeliak and Matheny talked to Wainwright and he said he feels fine. Strauss just ripped that. He said they are grown ups and know what they are seeing, while this team has been burned too many times by trusting a player. Hard to argue with that.

I'm not sure I'd want a guy who would be willing to skip a start in September. Strauss is right. They have to decide for themselves that Waino is going to skip a start. Maybe two. With the September callups, there are plenty of arms available.

I actually watched it and was pretty sure my eyes were deceiving me.

Agreed.  What's the point of having a manager if the manager is simply going to go to the players and ask whether or not he wants to play that day.  The answer is obvious, and to Artie's point, it would be more telling if Wainwright actually agreed to skip a start.  Wainwright came up under the tutelage of a guy who was willing to pitch with a purple hand.  Or was it green?

Re: 9/2 GC

With Wainwright's next start scheduled against Milwaukee, there's no way Matheny skips him.  But his start after that would be against Colorado at home.  That's a perfect spot to skip him, and then Wainwright could make his following start against Milwaukee again.  It almost makes too much sense.

My problem is with MM not preventing these issues.  He plays guys till they are beat down and slumping.  Then he goes and rest them, maybe, but they are already slumping.  He should have rested them along the way so they dont slump.

I said 2 weeks ago he needed to skip a start.  Im a moron that cant watch the cardinals half the time.  I havent played in the mlb or been around the game for 30 years of my life.  If i can see these issues why cant MM.

You dont even have to skip a start.  Use off days, move his pitch day back a couple days and give him a couple extra days.  This isnt ground breaking.  Teams do this..
