Re: 9/3 GC

OK, Bourjos has redeemed himself.

At least until he over-slides another base.

Re: 9/3 GC

And that should get Milwaukee good and tight for tonight's effort to avoid being swept by the Cubs.

That's all it took, an 11-hopper up the middle?
You need to learn how to hold a grudge like a New Englander.

Re: 9/3 GC

I only watched the last three innings, but what I saw was entertaining baseball.

And they've got the wrong guy pitching in the wrong ballpark against the wrong team. I'll be surprised if you can get a pin up Garza's ass with a sledgehammer tonight.

Until you described it, for all I knew he had his a laser off the wall that was simply scored a single since the winning run scored.  I didn't see a single pitch--I just heard the fireworks going off outside my window and looked at the box score.

Re: 9/3 GC

Figured it would take at least a triple to get Molina in from second....

Re: 9/3 GC

Cubs 6, Brewers 1 after three innings.

You called it. Garza have up 8 hits and 6 runs in 3 innings.

As crazy as it sounds, the Cardinals could damn near wrap up the division if the could win 3 or 4 this weekend.

Re: 9/3 GC

Yes they could.  I hope mm is learning.  Descalso had a good week, bourjos had a key hit today and kozma last night.  Unlikely heros but thats what has made this run.

Re: 9/3 GC

And that's a wrap in Chicago. 3 game lead with 23 to play.

I could really piss off Artie and start a magic number countdown, but I'll be nice.

Re: 9/3 GC

I won't take the three game lead for granted, but it feels more like a relief than excitement. They've still been one of the most frustrating teams in baseball for five months and the offense still has no clue what to do against Volquez. And even though they've benefited from a collapsing Brewers team, which makes this feel less like 2012, I'll still take it if it means playoff baseball.

Re: 9/3 GC

Everything is in the cards favor.  Brewers just got swept.  Cards have won 5 in a row.   I have that bad feeling things are going to even themselfs out.

Re: 9/3 GC

I'm getting a little tired of Hurdle's act when it comes to this crap. Let's not forget that Holliday and Adams were hit yesterday, and no one from the Pirates was. I'm almost certain Volquez wasn't throwing at either one of them, but the Pirates' pitching staff leads the majors in HBP, by a lot. They took out Paul Goldschmidt for the season, and then act offended when McCutchen gets plunked in the ribs by the Dbacks as retaliation. It's always the other team's fault when this stuff happens.

From the P-D:
Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle called it “an ambush. A cheap shot.”
Hurdle was referring to Cardinals righthander Shelby Miller throwing behind Pirates star Andrew McCutchen in the sixth inning Wednesday, a couple of innings after Pirates starter Edinson Volquez, throwing a no-hitter at the time, had hit Cardinals star Matt Holliday in the left shoulder.
Home plate umpire Ron Kulpa warned both benches after Miller’s pitch. Hurdle said that Miller hadn’t shown any control issues until that pitch.
“He’s not even near anybody,” Hurdle said. “If he hits him, maybe (Kulpa) tosses him.”

Re: 9/3 GC

I do think the McCutchen thing in Arizona was crap, because Delgado was out to injure him. If baseball teams are going to do this macho bullshit of throwing at each other, then it needs to be done the way Miller did it. I'm just getting a little tired of teams getting butthurt because pitchers are throwing inside and will occasionally lose control. If you don't want to worry about taking a pitch to the body, then go play golf or sit at a desk for eight hours a day.

Re: 9/3 GC

Yeah I watched the highlights of the ball to Holiday. That pitch was pretty ugly to me. I thought we handled it well. Wing one behind a batter, and send a clear message without anyone getting hurt, and continue playing the game.

Was the pitch to McCutchen intentional? You bet your ass it was. Holiday is the only reliable bat we've had for the last couple of weeks. Keep some control when you pitch to him.

"I do think the McCutchen thing in Arizona was crap, because Delgado was out to injure him."

I agree completely, but the Pirates complains ring a little hollow, because their guy took out Goldschmidt.
The Pirates have hit 76 opposing batters this season. The White Sox are second with 62. The Pirates led the majors last year. They were fourth in 2011, the first year Hurdle got there. He's the last guy who ought to be complaining about a pitch that didn't hit one of his players, especially after two players from the other team had been hit, intentionally, or obviously in this case, unintentionally.
