My internet is supposed to be upgraded to 7megs very soon. I dont know what that mean but im at less the 1 meg right now. I suppose it means good. Anyway, in my always standing goal of being cheap i was wondering about reducing my cable bill by streaming. It seems more people are doing netflix instead of dish. Im fine with that except for sports. I believe u do the mlb tv thing. How does that work? If i do it will i always get the visiting telecast? I have a smart tv but my other 2 tvs are not. Will i not be able to watch them on the other tv? It says the cost is $129? I basicly have the same questions about the nfl. I understand it is through direct tv. Does that mean i have to subscribe to direct tv to get it? Remember u have to explain this like you are talking to an complete fool.

Not Artie, and I can't answer the MLB question, but in order to get NFL Sunday Ticket, you have to subscribe to DirecTv. There is an online version, but it's pretty much limited to college students and people who live in apartments who can't otherwise subscribe to DirecTv.
Also, if you're looking at something like Netflix, you may also want to look into Amazon Prime. It's a monthly or annual fee, similar to Netflix, but in addition to access to their "free" material, you also get access to a lot of other movies/shows that you have to buy, but it sort of serves as a PPV for fairly recent movies (cheaper than the theater). Also, I believe an Amazon Prime membership gets you free shipping if you shop at Amazon. Comes in handy at Christmas time.

Hmm, yeah ill check into amazon prime. Seems dumb on the nfl not to sell people there product direct but i assume direct tv gave them a nice check. I think ill call dish today and haggle them. Maybe that will work. 100 bucks a month to watch the cards and about 2 other tv shows seems wastefull.

For the last 4-5 years, I've ordered the Extra Innings package through my cable provider, which is Comcast. It costs $200 per year. Generally, you get the home team's feed on EI, but sometimes you get both, depending upon how many games are being played that day.
MLBTV is different. It's basically a service you order on your computer, though MLB.com. I got it for free in 2004 when we moved to our new house and ordered cable, and I kept it the next few years. It's a bit less expensive than Extra Innings, but I don't know how much it is exactly these days.
One thing to be wary of is you may be in a blackout area for Cardinals' games on EI or MLBTV, in lieu of the FSMW brodcast. I don't get Red Sox games on Extra Innings because they want me to watch the games New England Sports Network.

I think MLB TV is $120. I've never paid full price because I always wait until the mid-point of the season when they put it on sale.

Do you get the cards games?

Nope, but I live here in the city so I get them through my cable package.

Call DirecTv, tell them you're thinking about switching, and see if they'll throw in the NFL Sunday ticket for free. I've heard they'll do it in some cases.

I believe that is there offer if i switch. It would cost me probably 40 to 50 bucks less per month for a hear and id get nfl ticket. After that year id be in the same boat jm in now tho and id have the pain in the ass of changing equipment.

I have a friend who has Comcast and every time his bill gets jacked up, he threatens to switch to Verizon and he gets his old rate. And my boss switches between Comcast and Verizon so often he's always getting the "introductory rate."
I really don't have a choice because my wife's best friend works for Comcast, and every time someone from Verizon shows up to sell us something, my wife chases them away with a broom. We pay the basic rate for TV and internet, and we get all the movie channels and phone for free. But I think they give you the phone service for free anyway if you get the bundle for the other two, so it's really not that much of a savings. We have to pay the full rate for PPV movies and sports packages, though the only sports package I get is baseball. I'm really more of a Bruins' fan than a real hockey fan, so I don't get the hockey package, and I don't watch the NBA or MLS. I think there's a college football package, but the games they show are really obscure, like Towson St. vs. Shippensburg St. The only must-see college football for me is ASU, and I think for the past three years, every ASU game has been on either Fox, one of the ESPNs or the Pac 12 Network.

Can younswitch back and forth? I thought they wouldnt off you the intro rate unless u havent already been a subscriber. It is allma rip off. I watch fsmw, fx and discovery. That pretty much 70% of my viewing and the other 30% is just me having something on. To pay $1000 a year for that little of viewing is dumb.

Honestly, I don't think they care. I have AT&T U-Verse. They will flat out tell you to call them every 9-12 months to find out what the latest special is and they give it to you plus they send out a guy with the latest internet box, etc...
Competition is a beautiful thing.
