9/24 GC

Braves scored two runs in the bottom of the second and have a 2-0 lead, but they should have scored more. They still had runners on first and second with one out, with Simmons and Freeman at the plate.

Re: 9/24 GC

Excellent idea. Walk the bases loaded to face Castillo, who is hitting something like .924 against the Cardinals this year.

Is Derek Jeter retiring at the end of the season? I hadn't heard anything.

Wong didn't look too happy on that popup. I think Taveras must have been playing so deep he was in Wisconsin.

McCutchen answers Upton's 2-run homer with a 2-run bomb of his own.

It's not so much giving up a triple to the pitcher, it's giving up a triple to the pitcher on an 0-2 count.

Anyone off the top of your head know what happens if the Pirates and the Cardinals finish with the same record?

They play a tie-breaker game (Game 163) in St. Louis on Monday.

Re: 9/24 GC

Last year I remember telling my co-worker that though I loved the Cardinals making a deep run into the playoffs, I was ready for it to wrap up because of all the nights I'd be up until 11:30 watching and discussing the game. I don't think I'll have that problem this year.

Re: 9/24 GC

Well there hasnt been much to discuss this year.  to say the words artie dislikes....it is what it is.  Pretty dull season.  Holliday has started to peak my interest.  Now they are stacking the odds against themselfs by sneaking into the playoffs and being on the road.  Any advantage the cards would have had by putting wainwright on the mound will be offset by facing kersaw at home.  The cards just dont match up to the dodgers.  Player for player they beat the cardinals in every area but catcher.  It isnt going to be good.

I dislike that phrase because Belichick was the first one to say it.

Seems like a lot of trouble to break a tie between teams that are both headed for the playoffs anyway.

Re: 9/24 GC

How many losses will it take for Dan Mcglaughlin to stop trying to bring up every random factiod possible that means the Cardinals are a team of destiny.

Last night it was a discussion of the Cardinals record in 1 run games, and that's what Champion teams do is find a way to win those close games.

It's annoying. This team has starting pitching, and little else.

Not sure, but he's the one who brought it into the zeitgeist.
I believe he's also the coach who popularized the trend of describing injuries by merely referring to the affected body part, as in: "Wilfork has a knee," "Brady has a shoulder," etc., presumably as a way of limiting disclosure to the enemy. Evidence would suggest that Wilfork has, in fact, two knees, and Brady has two shoulders. I'm still waiting for Belichick to unveil his terminology for an injury to a New England player that results from a kick to the groin.

Don't know, but I think I'd rather hear factoids from McLaughlin about the 2014 Cardinals than McCarver's story for the 2,114th time about Bob Uecker shagging fly balls with a tuba during the '64 World Series.

Idk what there record is in one run games.  There home/away splits on them are probably telling.  And f u throw out the games that the cards had a 3 run lead going into the 9th and hung on for a one run lead the record is likely horrible.  Misuse of the closer doesnt make the team good a  lose games.

Re: 9/24 GC

The Braves are making a mockery of the sport right now. They're playing like they are purposely tanking.

Let's win tonight boys, we need it.

Re: 9/24 GC

Bernies artical only gives the cards a 6% chance of losing the division.  Idk how they figure stuff but it is larger then 6%  that the cards lose this series and the pirates win theirs.

Re: 9/24 GC

I would think it's 25%.

50/50 that we can win more or as many games over the final three as pittsburgh.
50/50 that we win the one gamer for the division title.

50% of 50% = 25%.

Not very scientific, but that's what I think.

Re: 9/24 GC

The absolute worst imaginable would be tying them, losing the division title game, then playing the wild card game.

Even if we win that, we're going up against a rested champion with our top 2 starters on the cooler.
