FWIW- Chad absolutely raved about Lackey. He felt he was good for the team.

He seems to be worth the price to me for sure, but I know Artie really dislikes him, and wasn't going to say much

Idk why but it annoys me the cubs went out and got maddon.  Theo, madden...it is like buying players didnt work so now they are buy front office and managing.

Re: Off Season Crap 2014-2015

I know the hype isnt the cardinals style but they need middle the order power with no place to get it.  I wonder if there is any chance they kick the tires on Yasmany Tomas.  I think i read a prediction the other day that he may go for 7 years 100 million.  Right handed power at that price is cheap.

Oh, they're going to start signing players. Patience among the myopians only lasts for so long. If the Cubs lose 90 games again, people are going to get wise that Theo is an emperor with no clothes.

Who in the world is Ed Easley, and why did the Cardinals add him to the 40-man yesterday?

Re: Off Season Crap 2014-2015

Pd is listing lefthanded players as needs for the cards....i dont see that.  Choate, freeman and siegrist should be enough to draw from.  Plus garcia figures in the mix slightly.  If anything it is a minor need.  Maybe add some depth.

Left handed hitting is minor as well.  With adam, wong, carp and jay in the everyday lineup i see a righthanded compliment to adams as the biggest need.  Thats why i brought up the cuban dude.  He is right handed and could fill in right field.  Idk how much of a first baseman he is but that is easier to learn the bat boy.  Plus he is billed as a power bat.  There is nobody on this team i expect to hit 20hrs in 2015.  At least i could be hopefull about his power.  Now that taveraz has passed there is nobody with a potential power bat.  Peralta isnt going to hit 21hrs again and holliday is slipping by the year.  They need power.  They need power like i need laid.

Re: Off Season Crap 2014-2015

Lot of rumors that the Cardinals have interest in Andrew Miller. Spending that kind of money for a relief pitcher would be a very un-Cardinal like move.

Yeah that seems unlikely

I think something is up.  Mo said he wants to keep bourjos.  Something smells fishy.

He's not going to be able to trade him now. Bourjos apparently had "procedure" on his hip last month.

Re: Off Season Crap 2014-2015

I'm all in favor of a move that only costs the Cardinals some of DeWitt's money. I have no idea what the Mets are doing. They've built some components of a competitive team by drafting wisely and avoiding paying too much money for aging players, and then they go out and give obscene money for Michael Cuddyer, a solid player who they're paying for the production he put up two years ago in Denver and couldn't stay on the field last year, a situation that probably isn't going to improve after he turns 36.

Re: Off Season Crap 2014-2015

I agree on both fronts.

Cuddyer was rumored by some to be the first player to to accept the qualifying offer.  I thought if he didnt he would be kyle loshed, steven drewed or kenny moralis.  I thought there was a situation where the cardinals could wait it out and give up there low draft pick for a reasonable contract with cuddyer.  Like you said the mets seemed to have jumped the gun.  I guess I under estimated what gms would do I  a poor market.

Im in favor of tomas.  Cuban players have done really well in the mlb right out of the gate.  14 millions dollars isnt that much for power.  The draft pick you dont lose has some financial value as well the fact if you drafted the player out of high school or college of his skill set you would have millions in signing bones and have to pay him through the minors.  Plus your getting a 24 year old.  I know those are 24 cuban years which could mean he is anywhere from 16 to 35 years old.  Still he is young.

These factors all offset the risk but there is still huge risk in tieing money up in a guy that has never swunga bat Iin america, let alone at mlb pitching.  I think it is something the cardinals should at least be looking into.  They do not have middle of the order power.  Nor do they have a minor leaguer predicted to bring it.  At some point they are going to have to fill that void through free agency or trade.

Re: Off Season Crap 2014-2015

I wouldn't mind seeing them kick the tires a bit on Michael Morse. He gives you a right-handed power bat to either complement Adams at first or off the bench, and you might be able to get him enough starts in the outfield to spot
Holliday once a week or so. And he kills the Cardinals, so having him on their roster would keep him off someone else's.
