Re: Oregon 2014-2015

I don't think UofA can beat Oregon twice. And in any event, Solomon is supposedly battling a foot injury that really limited his mobility. They didn't run that option pass once last week. The freshman running back is legit. Their receivers with the exception of Jones are nothing special. The kid who was a Biletinkoff finalist before he blew out his knee last year is just a slot guy who moves the sticks now, he's not a deep threat. Except for Scooby, their defense is Pac 12 aqeduate but can be beaten. Especially the secondary. They have a d-end who can rush he passer a bit, and they sacked Kelly five times, but Kelly hasn't been the same since he hurt his foot.

I think you're right about Alabama-Mizzou. Alabama may have a letdown after playing their way through that gaunlet of a schedule in November. Or they realize what's at stake and the gravity of a conference championship game and come out and put the boots to the Tigers.

I hope Ohio State loses every week, but I especially want them to lose to Wisconsin because I don't want to see them in the Final Four. I don't think the Big 12 deserves a spot, but I'd rather see Baylor or TCU than Ohio State.

I've been anti-FSU for the same reasons you are, but at some point you have to give them some grudging respect because as bad as they look almost every week, they come back and win.

Re: Oregon 2014-2015

I thought Baylor was in position to move into the playoff until it nearly shit the bed against Texas Tech. Now, assuming both win this weekend, I think TCU gets the spot over Baylor, unless...

This weekend's game could thrown all sorts of wrinkles in the equation. Ohio State has to start its 3rd string QB against Wisconsin. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Wisconsin wins that game.

FSU/Ga. Tech- FSU has looked awful for about 5-6 games. If Florida had an offense, that game would have been over in the 1st quarter. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Georgia Tech wins.

Oregon/Arizona- I haven't watched enough of either team to comment intelligently. I know Arizona won earlier this year, and I know Rich Rodriguez seems to be linked to every job opening but Michigan, so who knows.

Then you have Alabama/Mizzou. I watched Alabama beat Auburn, and it's a very different Bama team. The defense isn't a typical Bama defense, but it's offense looks better than usual. With that said, Auburn's defense sucks, so I'm not sure if Bama's offense was that good or it just looked that good.

Mizzou's defense has been statistically the best in the SEC. Is that a product of playing in the SEC east, certainly that had a part. But Mizzou's d-line is very good. Bama's QB faced no pressure against Auburn. If Mizzou can't get pressure, it can't win. But Shane Ray finished with 14.5 sacks and Marcus Golden is better. The DTs are underrated and very good.

Then there's Mizzou's offense. It's an enigma. Who knows what you get with Mauk, but he's played better of late, especially when his receivers actually catch the ball. Mizzou tends to run it pretty well when you don't expect it. They had maybe 50 yards rushing through 3 quarters against Arkansas, but with the game tied at 14, they marched 86 yards for the winning score throwing only 1 pass which was incomplete.

Mizzou can't win a shootout. It needs to play a game in the 20s. The Mizzou fan in me says the game comes down to a field goal which Baggett will doink off the upright and we lose. But I don't care, I made the call on Saturday and bought my tickets to the SEC Championship game. I have a full schedule on Friday, but Bob and I will be driving down to Atlanta (or the general area) Friday night and we'll be there on Saturday. I said last year there would be no telling when Mizzou would ever get there again. They'll probably never go back as back-to-back East Champs, and if nothing else, I want to see Bama.

I fully expect Mizzou to get rolled. Pinkel coaches tight in big games, and I expect the same here. I don't think Saban will embarrass his friend (Pinkel and Saban coached together on Don James' staff), but I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up 31-14 Bama or something like that. I don't care, I'm going to enjoy the shit out of this weekend.

And if they happen to win--I'll probably need bond money.

Wow. That's not a short jaunt. How many hours is that on the road?

8-9 hours.  550 miles. The only major metro area we'll hit is Nashville, so I'm hoping we can cruise 75-80 mph most of the way.

The plan is to drive as long as I can safely go, but at least, hopefully, to Chattanooga. If we get to Chattanooga, we're 120 miles from the Georgia Dome. That's pretty much a normal drive to Columbia.  Game is at 4:00 EST, so we'll have some time on Saturday to finish the trip.

Be ready to be a bit insanely frustrated getting from 57 to 24... That little piece of interstate down there by Rend Lake has been under construction for what has to be the last decade.

Really? Seems like it ought to be longer. Of course, if I drive 550 miles, I'm somewhere in Virginia, which might as well be the other end of the world. The 8-9 hours thing is variable. I could still be stuck on the GW Bridge, depending upon the time of day. I hate driving through NYC.

I know exactly what you're talking about.  Have you been there recently?  I deal with a few clients in Mount Vernon, and the last time I was in the area they suggested everything was finally finished.

Re: Oregon 2014-2015

Last november I came through there, it was 5 miles of construction.

I'd love to say they finished, but everytime I go through there, they are working on it still.

I wish I could remember who it was that told me it was finished.  But I know exactly what you're talking about.  It seemed like everytime I went that way, there was about a 5-10 mile stretch where one direction of highway had been completely removed and the other side was handling both directions.

Re: Oregon 2014-2015

Looks like there's still stuff there.... I love some of those estimates, due to finish in 2050, but there are some valid ones that deal with lane closures, slowing down, etc.

Wait, wait, wait ... There are states that provide their residents with information about construction projects and potential delays in an easily accessible format??? What handy information to have.

I checked with a client in Mount Vernon.  He said that other than some current resurfacing where 57/64 merge, the construction on 57 south of Mount Vernon is finished.  He said there was some north of Mount Vernon, but that won't affect us.

I hope so. I don't think Ohio state will be kind enough to turn the ball over 45 times like Florida state did in the 3rd quarter.

I like our chances!

Re: Oregon 2014-2015

Alabama can't handle mobile quarterbacks.  Ohio State was a bad match up, and Oregon would have been even worse.  I don't think Oregon's defense will have that same problem.

If Alabama hadn't let Cardale Jones convert a dozen 3rd downs with his feet, that game wouldn't have been close.

I'd love to see a TCU/Oregon game.  I could see this year being a springboard to expanding the playoff to 8 teams.
