I guess I can understand the rationale. Adams drops down a couple of bunts to the left side early in the season, the shift goes away and there's more space available on the right side. But on the face of it, asking your lumbering cleanup hitter to work on laying the ball down seems like typical Matheny anti-logic.

I suppose, but even if Adams successfully dropped a half dozen bunts, I'm not sure the shift goes away. He's out there to hit for power. His picking up a bunt single isn't a disaster for the other team.
Plus, wasn't one of Adams' issues last year that supposedly he let himself get psyched out by the shift? So now Matheny's going to ask him to bunt and really mess with his head.

Wasnt this talked about last year? Maybe it was just the braodcadt bringing it up. I think it is an excellent idea. Why not? Idk that matheny needs to talk about it unless it is just a decoy to get other teams thinking about it. That it isnt something they are going to do in the season. Given the situation i like the idea tho. If adams is leading off the inning and its a small ball situation, depending on if he is raking or not, take the free base. Run him through a few extra bunting drills and keep it in the back of your mind matheny. Way back.
