Driving to Key Largo for some diving, we take off Tuesday. We'll stop Wednesday in Kissimmee to see the Braves Cards and then on the way back we'll hit Jupiter for the Cards Twins game.
We'll also do 2600 miles of driving, and 8 dives out of Key Largo
Should be a great time, my first spring training games!
Envious. But right now I'm envious of anyone who doesn't have three feet of snow in his/her yard.

FWIW- I traded texts with Chad last night and he said yesterday was the most effortless Martinez has ever looked. Said he appears more focused than years past. Hopefully a good sign for the Cards.
Marco Polo supposedly looked good today, too. I know it's always dangerous to think you've got too much pitching, but one wonders how this is all going to shake out.

No worse than Strasburg's though. Villanueva seems to have been the weak link today.

If anyone is interested, MLB Network is rebroadcasting the game at 7:00 (CST)

Garcia didn't "look " as bad as his stats after seeing him . Threw quite a few pitches , but he was probably working on something that MM and staff wanted to see . He did start to have "that look" in his eyes before they pulled him.

Lynn left today with a hip flexor strain. He says he'll be fine and doesn't expect to miss his next session, but I'm just going to go ahead and mentally prepare myself not to see him until August.

Our crack medical staff will have him back out there In no time at all .

Yeah, I thought Garcia really labored. I DVR'd the game and watched most of it on fast forward, mostly because I find it difficult to listen to the Washington announcers, who already seem to be in mid-season form. I've always thought Bob Carpenter's primary goal is to get the Nationals' players to like him rather than to describe the game for the viewers, and F.P. Santangelo's contributions usually consist of sage observations like "The Nats would like to come up with a hit with the bases loaded here ..." Rob Dibble is a jerk with a room temperature IQ, but at least he's comparatively interesting.

I was listening to the Red Sox broadcast and the announcers were describing Wacha's changeup as "unhittable."

Bud Norris carving through the Cardinals' lineup so far like Alexander the Great cutting the Gordian Knot.
Garcia gave up a run in his three innings. He struck out five, which explains his pitch count of 55.

Reynolds tattooed the shit out of a Norris pitch.

And as soon as I write the last message, Reynolds delivers a 3-run bomb off Norris the Nemesis.

Pete Kozma, now playing right field ...

Garcia sets down the side in order in the 4th. Take that, Marco Polo.

I would love to see Garcia have a fantastic spring and the Cardinals be able to move him to a team that needs a starting pitcher.

Kind of a slow spring. The results dont really interest me. There are no position battle but starting pitcher. It is hard to really get a grasp on that. Marco has showed the best results yet i think he is still least likely to make the cut. Garcia has shown the least but likely as earned himself a couple start because of his price tag.

I would give a slight edge to Garcia over Marco and five of the six runs Martinez has allowed came in his last start. I think Martinez still has the edge.

If garcia can tread water against a mlb lineup i think the club would be stupid not to give him the job. As VEB pointed out, marco and carlos have an inning limit anyway. Them not making the starting rotation as the club goes north may be a good thing. Garcia is owed 9.5 million. I think that tips the scales. He also has 2 years of club options. In todays market the price on them isnt bad. 11 and 12 million ish i think. He struck out 7 today. Maybe other teams will take a look at him.

Trading Garcia has come up, but I'm just not sure that's practical. For a team with as many question marks as the Cardinals have, trading someone who might be healthy enough to give you 10-15 really good starts could hurt down the line. I think the best plan would be take Martinez north, let Garcia rehab for a month and make the decision from there.

Also, the Cardinals have made a big show about how much they love Martinez. He wasn't traded because they believe in him so much. Either go through with him now or work on a trade.

Garcia and martinez both have the best "stuff" on the team. One thing is for sure. An excess of starting pitching always seems to work itself out. Im for getting 15 starts out of garcia. I do think marco is the steadiest pitcher of the bunch.
