If you were dropped on the planet this afternoon and the only thing you knew about baseball was from watching the ESPN broadcast of this game, you'd be convinced Bryce Harper is the best player in the history of the sport.

I'm pretty sure Bryce would agree with that conclusion.

Re: 4/22 GC

You know what I would have said to Lackey if he started bitching about being taken out?
"You want to stay in the game longer? Then pitch better."
That shit's gonna get old real quick.

Tie game in the 7th inning between two of the best teams in the National League and Sutcliffe is talking about his first major league home run.

Re: 4/22 GC

I have no idea how anyone becomes a major league hitter. Everything this guy Treinen threw moved like a wiffle ball on a windy day, and the Cardinals still got a run off him. Jay's at bat was phenomenal. To fall behind 0-2 and then work a walk just shows incredible skill.

FWIW, Chad thinks Lackey's attitude is exactly what this team needs. He thinks the team had become too "nice." (Read- Christian).  Lackey replaces some of the edge that Carpenter brought to the table. Obviously it's caused him to wear out his welcome in some places, but Chad really likes Lackey. Then again, maybe that's just Chad's personality.

Yeah, it was much of the same when he was here. As irritating as he seems to be, his teammates, especially the yoiunger pitchers, seem to admire him.
All that is fine, but the reason Lackey didn't go deeper into the game tonight is because of Lackey. If he covers first base on Zimmerman's one-hopper to Adams, he gets out of the inning with far less damage. And then he commits two errors on another play and extends another inning and runs up his pitch count.
It's not the best behavior for a guy who tends to run on the brink of showing up his teammates when they make mistakes behind him and/or his manager when he comes to take the ball.

Re: 4/22 GC

Completely unrelated to the Cardinals, I'm watching the Blues game, and the FSMW ticker keeps running a headline that Bernie Williams, who hasn't played since 2006, will formally retire on Friday.

Who's next, Satchel Paige???

I always thought williams was unrated.  He was as good of yankee as jeter.

Re: 4/22 GC

I agree with both fors and arties points on lackey.  He really let last nights game fall apart.
