Better question. Odds we see Rosenthal for a 4th straight game?

I don't think they can do it.

The Cubs are threatening because I just got out of bed and turned the game on. Sorry in advance.

Does every team have a guy named Herrera?

Then let's score a few more runs

If the Cubs tie this, who catches? All three are out of the game.

Glad we didn't have to find out.

There's still five months left. FIVE.

Two wicked line drives that happened to find leather, a 400-foot homer and a bailout by Soler who swung at ball four. I believe that's called an "Izzy save."

I know, I know. But they have a 5.5-game lead on May 4. Crazy.

I'm just commenting on how ridiculously tense the games have been. I can't remember this many close games.

Re: 5/4 GC

At this rate, I'm going to feel 65 by Sept. 30.

Tomorrow is going to be as close to a punt day as I think it gets. Tyler Lyons should be tasked with throwing at least six innings, even if he throws 120 pitches and gives up 12 runs in the process. They need another long man who will throw the other three innings.

Lynn, Lackey and Wacha (especially Lynn and Lackey) need to grow a pair and find a way to get 7-8 innings over the following three days. Repeat the Punt Day on Saturday with Lyons and the other disposable arm. Pray that Lynn can go 7-8 innings again on Sunday and give the bullpen an extended break.

Re: 5/4 GC

All things considered, they came out of last night's game in better shape than expected.

Villanueva is obviously off limits today, and probably tomorrow too.  Belisle should be off-limits also.

Sokolovich probably gets sent to Memphis for a fresh arm. Though certainly not fresh, Rosenthal, Choate, Seigrist, Tuivailala and Harris all got yesterday off, though Harris and Tuivailala pitched 2 innings on Sunday. Maness only pitched an inning and didn't pitch Sunday, so he's probably available if needed.

I agree it would be nice if they could get by with Lyons and the fresh arm from Memphis, but they can cobble something together today, if needed.

They need to get to the point where guys are getting at least a couple of days off before pitching again. That means Matheny may have to trust people in roles that makes him uncomfortable, but it's necessary for the long term survival of the bullpen.

Re: 5/4 GC

Wish i could have watched last nights game.  Looked epic.

I agree the pen has to be saved and limited.  Thats easier said then done.  When the game is in reach it is hard to use the third best guy.  I think this team needs to bring back the phantom DL trip.  Guys should start scheduling their 2 week vacation now.
