I may not like his demeanor on the mound, but Lackey gave them a ballsy and much-needed outing today.

For sure , especially enjoyed the Kris Bryant at bat when Bryant asked for time as Lackey was about to deliver a pitch, awarded unfairly, I thought by HP ump . Lackey was clearly pissed . Next pitch he holds his stretch for what seemed like an eternity, daring Bryant to call time out again . Then blows one by him , strike 3 . Crazy John stole the kid's jock , socks, and his lunch .

That was a great moment.

No doubt.

Alright gents, I'm counting on you guys to bring this home. I'm leaving for Bob's track meet and need to beat the traffic

I spent 2.5 hours at a track meet yesterday, because Zach's event wasn't until the end. Go figure they wouldn't make the JV shotput a top priority.

3.5, but that's because Bob threw shot and discus. He did well--finished 8th in shot and 3rd in discus. He had his best throw ever on his 2nd throw and then beat it with his last. He needed every inch. The kid who finished 4th was 1 inch behind.

33'10" in the shot, 110'7" in the discus.

And now I get to go catch the back half of Madison's doubleheader. I love my life.

Track meets were the best in middle school when it was all about hanging out with friends and goofing off for three hours. I had to go to a district meet in 2004 near Springfield, Mo., which was about, oh, three hours from my house. That sonofabitch meet lasted from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. High school track meets are a great way to make you hate your life.

Compared to girls softball, a track meet is like spending 3 hours in the sack with Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba, and an unlimited supply of Viagra and Gatorade.

I need to forward you an email that caused a big shitstorm yesterday. It resulted in a dismissal from the team. Fortunately, Zach wasn't involved this time.

I almost got hit in the head with a discus covering a track meet once, but that's a different story.
I don't mind wathcing a track meet as long as it moves along. Indoor meets are better because there are fewer events. They don't always have enough officials for all the throwing and running events at an outdoor meet, so there's a lot of down time. They did all the running events first yesterday, and then all the field events. And for some reason in this conference they have the boys and girls meets at the same site instead of at opposite sites, so it takes twice as long.

The Diamondbacks are wearing their "throwback" unis tonight - those teal and purple sleeveless things with the pinstripes. Geez, that was what, five or six years ago?

That is how it's done at every track meet I've ever been to. This is why it takes several hours to complete these 12-team meets.

This was a dual meet. In my experience, when, say Peoria plays Springfield, if the boys meet is in Peoria, then the girls meet is in Springfield. In the conference my son's school is in, both meets take place at the same site.
The conference meet is a different animal. My son participated in the freshmen/sophomore meet last Saturday. The bus left at 8:30 a.m. and he got home late in the afternoon. Again, his participation consisted of three shotput throws.

The meet Bob was at yesterday was boys only.  The girls conference meet is Saturday.

Rreally? In all my years, I've never covered nor heard of a boys or girls only meet in Missouri.

The boys meet was originally scheduled for Thursday and Friday, but with the weather forecast, they jammed everything in yesterday.  But the girls were always scheduled for Saturday.

I'm sure it makes me a horrible father, but I'm really hoping for the rain to continue.  I can't take another night of girls softball. Even if it means spending more time watching it tomorrow, I need a night off.
