Re: 5/14 Gamecrap

Unrelated to today's game and even this season, but Joe Strauss is filling in on the radio this morning and had some interesting information on 2011. According to Strauss, Mozeliak was going to let the season play out without a major trade. La Russa interjected, went to DeWitt and pleaded for the pieces he needed, selling DeWitt on the fact that if they got it, they could make a run.

Well, the Cardinals didn't improve all that much after the Rasmus trade, so La Russa went to Carpenter and said the team was heading for a .500 finish if things didn't turn around. If Strauss is to be believed Carpenter lit a fire under the team. History is eventually made.

Strauss wondered aloud what would've happened if the Cardinals stumble to the finish line in 2011 or if they lose on the last day of the regular season and miss the playoffs. They would've missed the playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons and since La Russa had already made up his mind he was leaving, the Cardinals probably make Francona more of a priority and possibly feel forced to sign Pujols.

Re: 5/14 Gamecrap

They really need to beat Bauer. Losing two of three before opening a series against the Tigers with Lyons and Martinez on deck would start to erode much of the good start they built.

Why is Adams fourth?

From following his chats, I think Strauss now that he's columnist has become almost completely infatuated with provoking responses. I'm sure his bosses at the P-D appreciate it, but this "Back to the Future" mentality about an alternate timeline is purely speculative.

Re: 5/14 Gamecrap

I don't think Wacha is pitching at 100 percent.

Re: 5/14 Gamecrap

The Indians have been collapsing in these situations all week. What a horrible bunt.

If it was, Bourn got one of the worst jumps you'll ever see.

Re: 5/14 Gamecrap

Cards need eight more outs from Wacha. Badly need six innings today.

Re: 5/14 Gamecrap

Carlos Santana is the baseball equivalent of James Harden. Harden works the referees to try and get fouled; Santana works the umpires for balls.

Carpenter is either not right yet or he's thrown off by the horrible umpiring.

Re: 5/14 Gamecrap

I can forgive the Cardinals for not hitting Kluber, Bauer is mediocre. No reason to go scoreless through six against him.

Re: 5/14 Gamecrap

It appears the Indians heard the Cardinals a shitty baserunning team and thought, "we'll top them!"

Gameday indicated Chisenhall got caught stealing home? Who does he think he is, Ty Cobb?

Re: 5/14 Gamecrap

I doubt that it will be addressed post-game, but I'd love to hear the reason for batting a LH Wong 6th while batting RH Bourjos 1st.  And please tell me it's something more than Matheny wanted to go RH-LH-RH-LH

They decided to try a double steal of second and home. Molina wasn't fooled for a second, faked to second, threw to third and they caught Chisenhall about 10 feet in front of home plate.
