Re: 6/8 GC

I'm watching the draft. Surprisingly, the pundits did not act like the Red Sox just picked the next Mike Trout.

Re: 6/8 GC

There can't be too many teams that play worse in Colorado than the Cardinals

Dansby Swanson sounds like he ought to be the captain of the Salve Regina sailing team, not the number one pick in the MLB draft.

Might be a hangover from the L.A. series, but the entire team looks like it has Headupyourassritis tonight.

People from the south have odd names.

This is a pretty embarrassing display.

Re: 6/8 GC

Lackey can bitch all he wants about the defense behind him, but neither Wong nor Grichuk threw an 80 mph cement mixer to Tulo.

From the replay, it looked like he grabbed his quad more than his knee.

Good call.

The way he was rolling on the ground, I don't know how that's just a strain. But it's the Cardinals medical staff. They probably had Holliday ice his thumb.

Never mind. TK, do you know anything about the two kids the Cardinals drafted?

I'm watching the end of the Women's World Cup game between Japan and Switzerland. The commentator just said the Japanese goalkeeper's poor ballhandling ability is "the chink in her armor." Is that racist?

From ESPN

Nick Plummer
OF, BROTHER RICE HS (LATHRUP VILLAGE, MICH.)
There are some who believe that Plummer has the best pure hit tool in the class, and it's easy to see why. His approach is outstanding, and his swing has little wasted movement and excellent balance throughout. He also gets enough extension to hit the ball with authority the other way, making him one of the few prospects in this draft with a chance of a plus-plus hit tool.

Plummer's power tool is a notch below the hit, but it's above-average as well. His bat speed is plus, and since he uses the lower half of his body well, it's easy to see him hitting 15-20 homers as his upper body gets stronger. He has above-average speed, and it plays up because of his instincts on the bases, giving him the chance to be a stolen base threat as a professional.

A team likely will give Plummer a chance to play center field, and while he's not an elite athlete, he has a non-zero chance to stick there, even though it's not a likely outcome. If he's forced to move to a corner spot, it'll likely be left field, as he doesn't have the arm strength of your prototypical right fielder. Because of his instincts, though, I think he has a shot to be at least average in the outfield.

It was important for Plummer to perform well in the showcase events last summer, as he faced inferior competition -- to put it nicely -- this spring in Michigan. in a league where every hitter starts with a 1-1 count. This made him difficult to scout and could have impacted his stock. His floor is that of an offensive-minded fourth outfielder, and his ceiling is that of an All-Star left fielder who can hit for average and power.

Re: 6/8 GC

Jacob Woodford
RHP, PLANT HIGH SCHOOL (TAMPA)

Woodford is going to be seen by plenty of high-level eyes this spring because his teammate, OF Kyle Tucker, looks likely to go in the top half of Round 1. Woodford is a solid prospect in his own right and could work his way into the second-round mix.

Standing in at a projectable 6-foot-3, Woodford is very much what they look for, with broad shoulders tapering down to a strong lower half. The delivery is clean and the total physical package here is quite impressive, especially considering the way the "elbow flu" is going around. Woodford features a fastball in the low 90s that scouts hope will grow into a mid-90s power sinker. His slider is average.

The stuff isn't awe-inspiring right now, but his body and athleticism make for gobs of projection. He'd make for a solid Round 3 flier, though the second round is a possibility if there's evidence of growth as we creep toward the draft.

Re: 6/8 GC

Bryce Denton
3B, RAVENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL (BRENTWOOD, TENN.)

Denton has gotten himself into great shape and looks better on all fronts, with the chance to hit for average and power. He's still likely to move to an outfield corner rather than stay on the dirt, though, and the power looks likely to come only to his pull side rather than play to all fields.

Denton has a mature approach and if his power maxes out where most scouts think it will, he's going to need it to continue to develop to profile as an impact regular.
