Cueto pitching against the Cubs. An interesting dilemma.

Lyons certainly does well enough in Memphis. Maybe this time he can do it in The Show.

I hope so, but everything so far indicates he's a AAAA pitcher.

Wong needs to learn he can't make every play.

Ventura's injury is "right hand weakness." Might as well have said "shrunken testicles."

Send Garcia out for the ninth?

Yes. This is a feelgood moment. From where Garcia has come, let him try to finish this.

I guess not, but that's a courageous effort against a really good team.

It's a shame Garcia has never had good health on his side. I think if he's healthy the last six seasons he's seen as one of the elite pitchers in the game.
As it stands, we've probably got about four more starts until his body fails him again. Such a frustrating career.

You're probably right, but let's play the "what if" game for a minute.
I know Garcia has 2 more club options--does anyone know whether the team has to exercise both at the same time or can it exercise 2016 by itself and then 2017 at a later time?
Depending on the answer to that question, what if Garcia was able to stay healthy the rest of this season and pitch reasonably well (I'll assume his current numbers are unsustainable) the rest of the season. Say he finishes with an ERA right around 3.00, and with otherwise good numbers.
If you could exercise just one year at a time, given that Lackey's contract is up, given the fact Gonzales' 2015 appears to be a lost season, and given that Wainwright and maybe Lynn will be returning from major injuries--would they consider bringing Garcia back for 1 year at $11.5M? From a pure business model, would it matter if the 2016 contract option was already covered by insurance (I don't know if it is or not, just hypothesizing)
I guess my point is, in the unlikely event Garcia manages to finish 2015 healthy and pitching like he is now, if you could bring him back for just 1 year, don't they have to seriously consider it?

I suppose if Siegrist is already hot, you bring him in, but Garcia's pitch count was still under 100, and he really didn't have many difficult innings. That's as well as anyone has pitched all year. I don't think the Royals made solid contact more than a half-dozen times.

You have to treat Garcia like a really expensive sports car. As long as he's not in the shop, he's fine, but at some point you have to give up because he's just too costly to maintain.

If he finishes the year healthy and with decent stats they have to keep him. Idk how they can afford not to in that situation. He is a high end starter when healthy. His options are not going to cripple the payroll. Risk vs reward...he is worth it.
