The third place team has already lost. Could be a 2-for-1 night.

Bob Walk is already complaining about ... well, everything. Apparently, Gung Ho Junk got hit on purpose last night, and Wong got hit by one that "got away." Bourjos didn't get hit at all.

I wonder if Dave Wannstadt (sp?) knew the Pirates were playing the Cardinals tonight when he showed up in a red shirt.

Let's hope tonight is Carpenter's resurgence

Lynn has been awful in this inning.

Very bad night for Lynn.

There aren't many catchers with an arm like that in the Korean league.

It seemed like he was trying to nibble early in the count, fell behind, and then had to give in. How many 3-ball counts did he have?

I didn't get a chance to see, but I was hoping he would pitch a little better considering the circumstances.

And he was pitching to a generous strike zone. Maybe that was part of the reason he was trying to nibble, because he was getting close calls. But a lot of what he threw wasn't close.
It's a little disappointing because Cole wasn't overwhelming. He was very good, but I've seen him pitch better.

There was a little bit of controversy in the third (?) inning, too. With runners on first and second and one out, the batter hit what would have been an inning-ending double play grounder to Peralta, but the ball hit the runner breaking from second on the foot. Matheny argued the runner and the batter should have both been out because there would have been a double play, but I've always thought the rule is the ball is dead when it hits the runner, so the umpires probably got it right.
Then Lynn fell behind Alvarez and had to throw him a meaty fastball that he lined into left center ro make it 3-2.
