In all seriousness, this is a pretty big loss for the P-D. I grew up reading Bernie and it's going to be weird without his byline. Plus, his new show runs counter to The Morning After, so I won't be able to tune in like I used to.

Wonder how you as the Dan Shaughnessy of St. Louis would go over.
I have to admit I've never been a big Bernie fan, at least in print. From reading the comments, it looks like he's mostly been able to walk the line between bland columnist and shit-stirrer. It's hard to pull off.

I thought that's how Strauss would come across, but he's been pretty pragmatic in print. Twitter has been a different story.

I enjoyed bernie. I like that he back his theories up with stats. If i had a complaint about him it would be that he writes a story after it has become news worthy. Luke after he has gaged fan reaction. We will see who they find but it will take awhile for stl fans to accept them no doubt.

Not uncommon. Bob Ryan made a career at the Boston Globe out of pandering to public opinion and he's revered here, even though in 40-plus years he never imparted one molecule of newsworthy information on the Globe's readers. Ryan had the uncanny ability to write glowing columns about Tom Brady after he won the Super Bowl or when Larry Bird lit up the Lakers for a triple double in the NBA Finals, but his typewriter always went silent when Brady dumped his pregnant actress girlfriend for a supermodel or Bird mangled his hand in a bar fight. That stuff was left for Shaughnessy.

I assume there is more money in radio? It seems to me that there is alot of shuffling in the radio business.

I wish I could pick up stl sports talk radio. I have satellite radio but all the sports shows are national shows and for some reason still talming about the nba.

Sports talk is one of the areas satellite comes up short. The baseball station is awful. Chris Russo is worse than bad. I can't understand what he's saying most of the time. At least they got Memolo off mornings. The only team he talked about was the Cubs, even when they were losing 100 games. The NBA has become a foreign language to me. The only players I can name are Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. The soccer station is actually pretty good.
