Cubs have scored six runs in the fifth to take a 9-4 lead.

The tenth batter made the first out of the inning.
Followed by a DP. Still one rough inning for the Buccos.

If the Cubs hold on, they'll have taken three out of four, which might be the best possible outcome for the Cardinals. And I think these two teams still have a 3-game series at Wrigley Field.
It'd be great to go into that series at Pittsburgh the final week of the season having already clinched the division.

Remaining schedules, after today:
Cardinals - @ Cubs (3), vs. Reds (3), vs. Brewers (4), @ Pirates (3), @ Braves (3)
Pirates - @ Dodgers (3), @ Rockies (4), @ Cubs (3), vs. Cardinals (3), vs. Reds (3)
Cubs - vs. Cardinals (3), vs. Brewers (3), vs. Pirates (3), vs. Royals (1; makeup of 5/30 rainout), @ Reds (3), @ Brewers (3)
Pittsburgh's schedule looks like DeWitt made it.

9-6 going into B8 ...
I hope the Pirates tie the game and they end up playing about 22 innings.

Kang for the pirates went down with a knee. He is a big pieces of their team.

Torn MCL , broken tibia

Now Pham nearly kills Jimmy Nelson.

I don't see how Nelson got up from that .

I was afraid they'd get smoked tonight. Their record in the third game of a series when they've won the first two has to be awful.

That's a shame. He's a really good player.

Cardinals have an interesting decision for a 25 man for the playoffs......

Davey Nelson on Jimmy Nelson's injury: "You never hate to see that happen."

Are you watching the Brewers broadcast? Anderson and Schroeder spent the seventh inning talking about the Cardinals' playoff roster.

In terms of elocution Davey Nelson makes Al Hrabosky seem like the baseball broadcasting version of William F. Buckley.

Is Matheny kidding with this nonsense?

That was part of the conversation. Whether Pham should be on the playoff roster. If he keeps hitting like this, he has to be.

In fairness to Harris, looked like he got screwed on a couple pitches to Segura .....

Matheny might make a great grade school basketball coach, but I'd have rather seen Lackey go for the CG.

Think the umpire was trying to send Matheny a message?
