Those Kooky Kub fans

I was going to go off about how unfunny this was until I figured out these "Cauldron" columns are submitted by readers and not actual Sports Illustrated writers. SI still has to answer for this bush league nonsense. That magazine hasn't been worth buying since they stopped publishing photos of Kathy Ireland in the swimsuit issue. As usual, the best part of the page is the comments section. Pay particular attention to the allegation the author is "Biased Cardinal Writer" and they guy who points out how few times Holliday has been HBP without mentioning he's spent two long stints on the disabled list.

Re: Those Kooky Kub fans

I was speaking to cub fan last night.  He was claimimg victory in the beam ball war and that the cards looked like bitches.  Idk how thats the case.  Holliday gets hit in the head..rizzo gets nicked..madden whines.  Maybe im missing something.

He proceed to say it will be great when the cubs beat the cardinals in the playoffs.  I reminded him the cubs have to get out of the wild card game to.

The death of every cursed fan right there. The moment it looks like your team is finally going to shake it off and do what they are capable of, you start thinking it's going to be possible, you believe! And they stab you in the face.

(i.e. St. Louis Blues Playoff Success. It hasn't been 100 years, but we do know the feeling pretty well here lately)

"He was claimimg victory in the beam ball war."

Considering Holliday was the only one who got hit in the head during the weekend, your buddy is probably right. I lost a lot of respect for Maddon. His "We don't start stuff, but we'll end it" came off like an immature, schoolyard taunt, and even though the "Cardinal Way" is nonsense, citing it as a reason to dislike them for the umpteenth time induces eye rolls at this point.

Re: Those Kooky Kub fans

I guess you could say the cards lost..  my question is why throw a fit about rizzo being hit.  At least matheny did the respectable thing and said nothing.

Now that my Kathy Ireland reverie has passed, back to the column. Any more info on Maddon's "plantar fasciitis" comment? I so hope it's as bad as it seems, because the whole world needs to see what an asshole that guy is.

The only place I've seen that quote was in a Twitter message (I still refuse to use the word "tweet" as a noun) from a Pittsburgh radio reporter. I've not heard any audio or seen video.
