It's a little easier in the LDS because you can carry one less relief pitcher, but they're going to have to leave off at least one or maybe two guys who have been with the club for the entire regular season.

No, it's in the middle of rural Missouri. Total population of about 40,000

Any sights worth seeing, or is it like Albany - a hick town that just happens to be the state capital?

It's nice for a town in rural Missouri, but Columbia is 30 minutes north and a lot more fun.

You lost me at rural. I start seeing hay bales, and my right foot reflexively presses the accellerator.

Re: 9/22 GC

If you're into foilage, fishing, hunting, wineries and walking around in the outdoors (I'm into none of those things), rural Missouri can be nice. People get awfully excited about going to places like Hermann (which is east of Jeff City and basically Hitler's utopia -- a bunch of blonde hair, blue-eyed Aryans with last names ending in -kamp or -haus) and walking on trails.

"If you're into foilage"

You guys have Leaf Peepers, too? It's an industry here. People drive dozens and in some cases hundreds of miles to look at leaves. The city in Western Mass. where I went to college has an annual Fall Foliage Festival with a parade and stuff.
The activity that's gained prominence over the last decade or so is apple-picking. My wife once suggested we go apple-picking, and I told her they have supermarkets where you can buy apples and get home in plenty of time to watch the Cardinals game.
We don't have a lot of German/Scandanavian types here, but we do have a lot of people whose ancestors came from Italy and Ireland. But you'd never notice because they're so subtle about their heritage.

Here's the link from the Jefferson City Visitor's Bureau.  Other than the current government buildings, the main attraction seems to be the old penitentiary

I think every small town in Missouri has a fall festival in September and October. At this point I think it's coded in ordinances that you MUST do this or risk having your city charter ripped up.

The activity that's gained prominence over the last decade or so is apple-picking. My wife once suggested we go apple-picking, and I told her they have supermarkets where you can buy apples and get home in plenty of time to watch the Cardinals game.

Yup. This is something else I don't do. As far as I know everyone goes to Illinois to do this. I don't think there's too many prominent orchards in Missouri.

I wasn't aware the Irish existed in Boston!

I'm sure you've noticed, but there's a good mix of German, Hispanic and French influence in St. Louis. We also pronounce "Villa" as literal as it looks, as opposed to "Vee-ah." And I'm sure we're butchering "Gravois."

If it were tomorrow they would have to keep pham, piscotty and moss over jay, reynolds or borjous.  Kozma is useless compared to garcia as well.

Yuh-huh they ahhhhh! They even got three different ways to spell the same first name. There's Sean, Shaun, and Shawn. And don't get me stahhhhted on how many guys are named Sully or Fitzy or Macca. Let's just say there's a wicked big shitload of 'em.

I was hoping we wouldn't do this until they actually clinch the division, but let's go (number to the left of the player's name is for accounting purposes only). This is for the LDS only. I'd think about carrying a 12th pitcher - Wainwright if he proves to be healthy - in subsequent rounds...

1. Wacha
2. Tsunamy
3. Lackey
4. Garcia

5. Lynn (long relief)

6. Rosenthal
7. Choate
8. Siegrist
9. Broxton
10. Maness
11. Cishek

12. Molina
13. Cruz

14. Moss
15. Reynolds
16. Wong
17. Peralta
18. Carpenter
19. Garcia

20. Piscotty
21. Pham
22. Heyward
23. Holliday
24. Grichuk

The last spot comes down to Bourjos or Adams.

Re: 9/22 GC

And I think I'm now on board with the notion of starting Lackey in Game 1, if the Cardinals win the division. His home/away splits are pretty dramatic, and if it comes down to a Game 5, he's been on the mound for two World Series clinchers. He won't be intimidated, and he'll throw strikes.

Re: 9/22 GC

With the recent stumble of cardinals pitchers I woukd agree with lackey.

Id agree with ur playoff roster.

You left off villanueva in favor of lynn.  I agree with that.  I think villa has been a great piece in the 2015 puzzle but not over lynn or one of the other pitchers.

On the radio they were saying martinez is the bullpen starter because he is nasty and can shorten 3 or 4 games in a 5 game series.  Idk, I can see that side.  I think it boils down to who is pitching well the week before the season ends.

Id agree with your position players as well.  Id would say the last 2 positions would come down to reynolds, adams and bourjus.  Then I think it comes down to the purpose of each player.

Reynolds- he still has the chance of power but he hasnt shown much.  Ive lost alot of favor with him.  I think your better off with adam, moss or piscotty at 1st.  The advantage to him is he is right handed vs moss and adam both being left handed pinch hitters

Adams- he still has to prove he is well enough to be on the roster.  If he hits I think you put him on.  I wasnt an adams fan early in the year but he was better then his replacements for the most part.

Bourjos-he isnt going to hit.  If he is on the roster it will be pinch running and defensive replacement.  With outfielders like pham, piscotty and hayward you have to wonder how many time a defensive replacement woukd be needed.  As we seen this week pinch runners can steal a game even if they cant steal a base.  If matheny thinks he needs a pinch runner on the roster I dont think you can rule out kozma.  He isnt quite as good as bourjos but it might be more likely that kozma replaces peralta in the late innings vs bourjos replacing an outfielder.

I said all that to say, I really dont fucking know.

Re: 9/22 GC

Martinez is a starter now. He's won 14 games. He's earned a playoff start. And even though he seems to be gaining maturity, I think you're take a risk you'll mess him up if you put him back in the bullpen.
With a minute to think about it, I'd pick Bourjos over Adams at this point. Adams doesn't give you anything Moss doesn't give you, and Moss can play outfield. And I don't know if it was just me, but Adams looked like Baby Huey on ice skates trying to play defense last night. He's not fully-healthy. If he gets on base, and we don't even know if he can get his timing back before the end of the regular season, he's going to be clogging the basepaths.
To me, Bourjos has greater value because he's the fastest player and the best defensive outfielder on the team. Any team they play in the post-season, at least in the National League, is going to have very good pitching, and the games are going to be close. We saw what happened in a close game on Monday night. No one else on the team except maybe Wong scores from first on Piscotty's double. Speed and defense are going to play a role in these playoffs.

Re: 9/22 GC

"Baby Huey on ice skates" might be the funniest line I've read in awhile. My preference for the roster:

C: Cruz, Molina?/Easley
IF: Moss, Reynolds, Wong, Carpenter, Peralta, Garcia
OF: Heyward, Piscotty, Bourjos*, Pham, Grichuk

*Assumes Holliday can't go

SP: Lackey, Martinez, Garcia, Wacha
RP: Rosenthal, Siegrist, Lyons*, Maness, Lynn, Cishek, Villanueva, Broxton*

*Assumes Wainwright can't go
*Would much prefer to Randy Choate

Nine right handed hitters.
I'm going to use a wagering strategy next year. I'm going to bet against the Cardinals in the third game of a three-game series after they've won the first two. I bet I make a bundle.

Yeah, well I'm being realistic here. Matheny would cut off his dick with a power tool before he'd take Lyons over Choate, even though it makes perfect sense because Lyons has an actual chance to get out right handed hitters and you can use him for more than six pitches.
