Another season with high hopes for my Ducks, but that rests largely on Vernon Adams, and how he plays. He did win the job from Locke, so hopefully he's got the goods.
USC looks much improved, but they need to really put a season together before I'm willing to surrender the PAC title.
Seems like forever, I can't wait for Saturday!

Week 1. Oregon passed with a C+ over a deceptive Eastern Washington team. Deceptive in the fact that they are "just an FCS school" but it's one of the best FCS schools there are. Still, defense needs to be better. I was happy with Adams.
Big test (Season defining game #1) going into Michigan State to take on the #5 MSU Spartans. Should be a great challenge and tell me more about where Oregon is or isn't at.

Week 2. Oregon couldn't get through Michigan State. Needed to make a couple plays on the last drive and couldn't get it done. Lost by 3, fell to 12.
College playoff hopes remain I think, and Oregon isn't really dialed in. Adams has only had 4 weeks, so I think things will get smoother. Tempo isn't there yet. This team however is not better than it was last season.

FWIW, I thought it was an entertaining game and Oregon had nothing to be embarrassed about losing by 3 to a good team on the road.
The QB of Bob's team has been hearing from Oregon (among others). Unfortunately he was injured this past Friday and may be out for the year. Fortunately, he's only a sophomore, so he has time to bounce back before he has to decide on any colleges.

Or Bob and Caleb can room together at ASU.
I'm just sayin' ...

Gotta be wierd having a kid going into College Sports if you're a hardcore fan like some of us are.
Imagine if you will you have a son who's a player. A straight gamer, and you've been a life long Michigan fan.... Your son goes to Ohio State University.
Do you just take a 4 year hiatus from college football? Try to figure out how to cheer for both? (Good luck there....)
Yikes!

If an ASU legacy commits to an athletic sacholarship at UofA, that's legal grounds for filicide, in Maricopa County.

Damn reporters. I had to look up the word filicide. Where I come from we call that "I brought you into this world, I can take you out of it."

In all honesty, I didn't know there was a term for it. I know there's matricide and fratricide, so I took a shot on Google.

Well week three is now in the books. USC is the latest PAC-12 hero to lay an egg. UCLA is now the top dog in the PAC with a ranking of 9. Oregon dropped a spot to 13 despite winning 61-28. Next week is #18 Utah.
I'm hopeful that Locke is as strong as he seemed to be running the offense. Adam's played tough, but needed him to sit down instead of trying to go against MSU. Missing a few throws that would have put us over the hump against Mich St.
That said? Our defense is god awful, giving up a season low 28 points to Georgia State.... yikes. Hopefully we can outscore people.

Mizzou reportedly beat UConn 9-6, but I'm fairly convinced that must have been a women's softball score because any Power 5 football team with a pulse has to be able to score more than 9 points against UConn.
On an unrelated note, the QB of Bob's team isn't out for the season. He only sprained his thumb (no ligament tear as originally thought) and could be back as early as this week. Even better, they managed to beat Webster 40-0 with the backup QB.
With 9 varsity starts under his belt, Bob (all 195 pounds of him) is now the most experienced offensive lineman on the team (yikes). They've lost 2 seniors to ACL surgery.

Well my optimism for Oregon is gone, and we're playing for pride now. Man Utah kicked our ass. So much worse than last season.
Oh well, maybe we'll get a new QB up there and ready next year... And a defense....

If you didn't see the last play of the Michigan/Michigan State game, make sure you watch the highlight.

That play might down down as the most painful ending to a football game in college football history. I know the FG return for a TD a couple of years ago in the Iron Bowl was stunning, but that game was otherwise headed to OT. Alabama didn't have the win already marked in the scorebook.
Michigan had this one wrapped up. I read somewhere that the Michigan State coaches had already started putting away their headsets. The game was over....and then suddenly....
And then there was this glorious news broadcast from a Grand Rapids news station. Just fantastic.

I guess the punter has had it pretty rough from the Wolverine faithful.

As the MSU grad in my Sunday morning hoop group said to me: "It's his fault. He chose to go to Ann Arbor."

Yeah, sad though. I'm a rabid college football fan. If De'Anthony Thomas blocks for Mariota, we beat Stanford and possibly play for the title a few years back, instead Mariota is tackled, that turns into a FG Attempt and miss, and we lose in OT.
I've been sick about that play since it happened, but it would never cross my mind to go after DAT and make it out like he's a life failure.
People should relax. It's a game.

Hell of a game last night Artie. Not sure about Oregon's last TD there, dude looked OB to me, but who is to say that Oregon wouldn't score anyway. I think that was a first down play.
Too bad neither of the teams are relevant this season!

And ASU had an opportunity to win the game in the third OT, so they've got no business complaining about the officiating. Typical Sun Devils. Gain 700 yards of total offense and still lose. That has to be some kind of historically-ignominious achievement.
