Alex Reyes Suspended

Re: Alex Reyes Suspended

Does ped suspension and drug suspension count the same?  Like what is the next step of punishment?

He should switch to meth.  It stays in the system a lesser amount of time.

Re: Alex Reyes Suspended

You said it. Fucking idiot. Even if it's silly to treat pot like a performance-enhancing substance, someone in his position who is subject to testing has to know he's risking everything for a buzz.

Re: Alex Reyes Suspended

Let's just get this out of the way: Nobody should be suspended for marijuana. Period. End of story. A ridiculous, outdated from from MLB.---jeff passan

My opinion is that if truck drivers and factory workers have to pass drug test for their employment then a baseball player with millions of dollars at stake should be able to do the same.  If reyes doesnt like it then I hear taco bell is accepting applications.   I think it is a requirement you smoke pot to work there.

I agree with Passan in the fact that Marijuana is not a drug I care to see prosecuted at any level.
Regarding Reyes, he knew weed would get him in trouble if he was tested, he smoked it anyway. At that point, he kind of gets whatever he gets and can't complain too much. It's still largely illegal in the US (although that's starting to change).

Re: Alex Reyes Suspended

I'm sure most, if not all of us who post on this board drink an occasional beer or two.  I, and probably some of you, have been known to enjoy the occasional bacon cheeseburger.

Faced with the prospect of making millions of dollars, I would give up beer and bacon cheeseburgers for as long as was necessary.  It never ceases to amaze me just how stupid these guys are.

I'm not sure I could give up bacon.

I love seafood. Scallops, Oysters, Shrimp, Mussels, Crab, sushi rolls, Clams, conch, you name it. If it eats crap off the ocean floor, I want to eat it.. I love it to the point where if I ever developed a shellfish allergy, I would probably consider suicide...

Yet lobster isn't high on my list. It's not bad, I can eat it, but considering the price, I'd much rather save the 10 bucks in price difference and get myself a serious crab pot. Dungeness crab is the peak of that particular mountain for me too, not king (another oddity).

I'm going to be a seafood snob here, but unless you've eaten lobster in Maine or the maritime provinces in Canada, you haven't really eaten lobster. There's something about getting a lobster off the boat during the day and eating it that same night. Once you put a lobster on ice and ship it in the back of a truck, it starts to lose flavor. I'd dare say by the time an Atlantic lobster gets to Missouri, you're probably better off ordering something else on the menu. Even a Massachusetts lobster isn't as good as Maine lobster, because the water here is warmer.
It isn't the same with shellfish because you can fry shellfish and they'll taste good even if they're a few days old. Hell, you can fry an army boot and it'll still taste ok.
And to put a bow on this, never order a lobster larger than 1 3/4 pounds. Anything bigger than that is an older lobster, and the meat in older lobsters tends to get leathery. Never go into a restaurant and say you want the biggest lobster in the tank, because you're going to be chewing on it until the rest of the people at your table are ordering dessert.

I'll give Maine lobster a chance if I'm ever up to the Northeast there. 40 years down, I haven't been there yet.... I'm not wasting 35 bucks on a lobster of any kind here in Missouri though!

Re: Alex Reyes Suspended

FWIW, Reyes didn't wait long enough to take up the ganj. It's not tested for in MLB and I think even if it shows up there's no penalty. As dumb as MiLB's rules are, you have to use better judgment, but I'm willing to give a 21-year-old the benefit of the doubt that he'll make better choices going forward.

Re: Alex Reyes Suspended

Maine is sort of the Mississippi of the northeast. The towns along the seacoast between the New Hampshire line and Portland - with the glaring exception of Biddeford - are incredibly scenic. Portland is nice, though in the past 10 years it's gotten more dangerous. Once you start getting past Greater Portland, the hillbilly factor increases dramatically, and the only things between Augusta and the Canadian border are the University of Maine, moose and pine trees.
When Sheryl and I were dating, we took a trip to Orlando. We got delayed at the airport for our flight back and sat next to a couple from Millinocket, which at the time had more paper mills per capita than any other city on the planet. You can't imagine how enthralling it is to hear a 2-hour discourse about paper production.
If you ever want to see the quintessential New England seaside town, go to Kennebunkport. It's like something you'd see on a postcard.

Re: Alex Reyes Suspended

Along similar lines, a couple years ago, Bob and I took a trip down to Ole Miss for a Mizzou game. While walking around their tailgating area (the Grove) we were invited into a tailgate by a group of Ole Miss fans. The guy who invited us in asked Bob if he liked shrimp. Last time I checked, shrimp was still considered food so it was probably a silly question--but the next moment, Bob is sampling a variety of shrimp based items ranging from peel and eat to some sort of jambalaya. As Bob was in the midst of stuffing his face, the guy explained that one of the other guys in the tailgate had pulled the shrimp out of the gulf on Friday morning.

To this day, Bob swears it was the best shrimp he's ever eaten.

I could survive on cajun food alone. Bob is very wise!
