He didn't rob it. He shoplifted.

One day you're shoplifting, the next you're holding up a K-Mart. Let's hope his picture has been placed in all the stores.

(I'm just covering up for my improper wording.)

Maybe one of our group members who is currently or was formerly involved in law enforcement can explain why $250 is the threshold for misdemeanor/felony larceny. Seems arbitrary. Or maybe that's just Massachusetts.

It's arbitrary.  Presently in Missouri, the property has to have a value of $750 to be a felony.  It was only $150 back when I was a cop.

Not sure how I feel about this. Leake is a decent pitcher. 16 million Iisnt that much by the markets standards and it is better then doing nothing. They didnt lose a draft pick so thats worth some extra cash. He is basicly lance lynn as far as on the field value. I think ulimately the cards can trade out of this contract billg bean style or this allows them to trade lynn if he is able to recover his value post injury. I suppose in thinking about it I see it as a decent move. Not spectacular but decent.

They gave Leake a full no-trade clause.

When healthy I think Lynn is a better pitcher.  This is probably an indication the Cardinals didn't think they could (or maybe wouldn't want to) sign Lynn after his contract expires.

Retail theft has to be over $300 in illinois unless it is gas, then it is $150, to be a felony.   I believe if the subject already has a conviction for any type of theft, retail theft is a felony and if it is second time on retail theft it is a felony regardless of the dollar amount.

General theft has to be over $500 to be a felony.  It used to be $500.  I think they raise the dollar amount on regular theft but wisely left retail theft alone.

$750 is alittle high....sort of suprising.

Lynn hasnt always been the happiest camper with his usage.

Re: Hot Stove Crap

Im sure the cards reviewed these stats....and there is an arguement to be made that leake might improve as a cardinal

At busch-3.16era.... .898 whip....42 innings
At GABP-4.31 era.... .1.324 whip....516 innings

He also works well with pena

3.14era in 57 innings

It is a small sample size at busch and working with pena but I think one can certainly conclude that leqke will be better away from GABP.

I would also be in favor of working leake exclusively with pena.   Molina is good with anyone and im sure he would be great with leake.   However I think splitting up a catcher workload by giving one pitcher a personal catcher is the best way to go.  The pair gets used to working with eachother and it systematicly gives the everyday catcher off days.

Re: Hot Stove Crap

One thing to watch is Leake is an extreme ground ball pitcher. His strikeout numbers are pretty low. He had a good defensive infield behind him in Cincinnati. Hopefully the Cardinals infield will support him defensively.

That's a very good idea. You give Yadi a mandated day off, so he can't bitch.

Other than a tractor-trailer, what kind of vehicle has a capacity of more than $150 in gas?

AP would know better than me, but I'm guessing a lot of the farmers have fuel storage vehicles that they use to fuel their farming equipment.

What is this "farm" of which you speak?

That's the place where they raise the pig that produces the ham that you secretly slip into you mother-in-law's corned beef sandwich.

Not many But some.  Thats only 37 gallon when the price was $4 a gallon.   Those 2500 and 3500 diesel trucks have 2 tanks.  Im sure they would qualify.  Or like fors said, many farms have a fuel tank in the bed of there truck for equipment.  doubt the law was wrote just for that one vechile tho.  I suppose a dollar limit had to be set in case the theft was to large.  It is about as ridiculous as a 300 or 750 dollar limit on merchandise.   You would have to steal everything in dollar tree to get $750.  The way the crimal justice system works (or doesnt work) I highly doubt retail theft alone would ever be convicted as a felony, no matter how many times it was on somebodys record or the dollar amount.

I misread that as "slipping her a sausage" and had to go throw up for an hour.

Idk im on the fence I guess.  Cargo would still be the best middle of the order bat in the cardinals lineup even in lower altitude.

Blackmond's speed and heyward like line would suit fine.  As well as the ability to play him in cf and grichuk in right.

Im undecided

Re: Hot Stove Crap

Well, obviously, the concern is the discrepancy in their home/road numbers. That being said, I like Blackmon. He's a good defensive player and he gives the Cardinals a real leadoff hitter. Maybe Moz can use the Jedi mind trick or something on the Rockies and pry loose Nolan Arenado. That guy made plays at third base last year I've never seen anyone make, and I watched Scott Rolen play everyday for 5 1/2 years.

I agree on both fronts.  Ive been in favor signing a third baseman all off season.  I think it is a better position to spend money at and I see carp as a super star at second.

At least with Blackmon you get 2 traints that altitude doesnt effect.....speed and defense.

Chad made basically the exact same comments as Wainwright when I saw him Sunday. Said the Cubs were Heyward's ideal team because it allowed him to be paid like "the man" without having to actually be "the man."  Said that fit Heyward's personality perfectly.

No.  Unless the Cardinals sign another outfielder, I don't think it matters much.

I figured it to be the other way around.  If the cardinals sign another outfielder it would be because they believe in holliday at first.

Just my belief, but as things stand currently I don't get the sense that there's any thought Holliday would play more than a handful of games at first. I see him more as a RH option to Moss/Adams who could maybe play against LHP.

Given the team's current composition, it makes a lot more sense to trade for an OF than to sign one. Even if you assume Holliday could play first, it makes no sense to have Moss and Adams on the bench. If they do something, I expect Adams to be part of the trade package.
