I wouldassume the yankees are pretty confident the domestic stuff will blow over if they are willing to give up 4 prospects.

Re: Hot Stove Crap

From what I've read, the most Chapman can be suspended is 45 games.  Buster Olney was on Bernie's show this morning talking about the fact that the Yankees acted because the price for Chapman had dropped significantly.  Sounds like it's 4 minor leaguers, not 4 prospects.

"Sounds like it's 4 minor leaguers, not 4 prospects."

Cotham went to Vanderbilt, which was notoriously over-seeded in the NCAA tournament in the oughts.
Renda went to Cal and was the Pac 12 POY a few years ago. He's always been a decent hitter. I think he played third base for the Yellow Bears, but the news reports list him now as a second baseman.
Jagielo went to Notre Dame and was the Big East POY in 2013, which is sort of like being the czar of the Ottoman Empire. Looks nice on a resume, but means almost nothing.
Davis is supposedly the best prospect out of the bunch.
From Cincinnati.com:
"
A 6-foot-5 right-hander, the 22-year-old Davis is a hard thrower with a big curveball.Last year he was a combined 8-7 with a 3.86 ERA at high-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton. In 130 2/3 innings, he had 129 strikeouts and 26 walks. After starting the season in Tampa, he made five starts (and six total appearances) in Trenton, where his strikeout rate dropped from 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings to 6.5.Baseball America rated Davis as the Yankees’ No. 6 overall prospect andMLBPipeline.com had him ranked No. 10"
Walt Jocketty on Davis: “(Davis is) a young right-handed starting pitcher we think will have a chance to be a starting pitcher the next year or two with us.”

The Reds' starting rotation at the end of the season was Anthony DeSclafani, Raisel Iglesias, Brandon Finnegan, John Lamb and Michael Lorenzen.  I think Jeff Weaver and Cement-head could crack that rotation.

Which goes back to the aborted trade with the Nationals for Brandon Phillips.  How big of a douche does Phillips have to be to think he had leverage to insist on an extension as a condition of a trade?  That's like an inmate insisting on a $100K/year job as a condition to accepting parole.  Most players would be doing cartwheels at the thought of getting out of Cincinnati.

I understand the competitive balance that mlb is going for with the way the draft is set up but it simply isnt making the game any more competitive.   The cubs, astros and royals have built competitive teams by being uncompetitive.   It is one thing for a team to have a firesale and start over.  It is another to purposely put a bottom cellar team on the field to collect high draft picks.  Furthermore the way the qualifing ofter stestem is set up it hurts the ablity for some players to get good contracts.  I dont see how the mlb union doesnt address that.

Not enough bad things can happen to the Reds. Look at their history. Of all the National League cities, none of them made Jackie Robinson feel more uncomfortable than Cincinnati. They traded away Frank Robinson because he was "uppity." The best player in the history of the franchise is a sociopath with a room temperature IQ who has been banned for life from the sport because he gambled on baseball, lied about it, then admitted it only when the truth became a path toward profitability for him. And he's still worshipped there. With the possible exception of Charles Comiskey, Marge Schott is the worst person to own a franchise in the history of the sport, and maybe all of American sports.
Despite Cincinnati's reputation as a "baseball city," their fans stay away from the product. In the 13 years they've played in GABP, they've averaged 10th or lower in the league in average attendance 12 times, despite the fact that joke of a Pony League ballpark should attract their know-nothing supporters like shiny objects attract a barracuda.
The fans who do pay attention cheer for bad characters like Johnny Cueto and Brandon Phillips, at least partly because the broadcasters they're forced to listen to think their role is one of affirmation and obsequity, rather than imparting insight and information.
If the entire Reds' franchise, and maybe even the entire city of Cincinnati, fell into a giant sinkhole tomorrow, the world would be a better place.

Pretty good article from today's P-D by Goold.  He talks about the Gordon contract.  It sounds like the draft pick compensation is a really big deal to them.

I dont really blame them with the draft pick thing.  We have seen how it can pay off.  Unless holliday is the full time first baseman and the outfield is grichuk, piscotty and the new guy i dont see a trade of signing as a good move.  Id rather go with the outfielders they have..

Re: Hot Stove Crap

It's an interesting signing.  The reports I saw stated Oh throws mid-90's with a hard slider and an effective curve ball.  Not that it means much, but his numbers overseas were ridiculous.

So as it stands right now, the bullpen includes

Rosenthal
Oh
Broxton
Maness

Siegriest
Lyons

I assume Tuivalala, Socolovich and Harris get to compete for the final spot.
