Because I don't think he actually knows anything about it.
What happened in "The Godfather" that is on par with Dexter Fowler agreeing to a preliminary deal with the Orioles and joining his former team after not getting an opt-out?

Luca Brasi, just before he gets a piano wire wrapped around his throat?

Nah, I don't think that works. Brasi was sent to infiltrate the Tattaglia family, right? And they figured it out and had him killed? I think this comparison would work better if Brasi successfully gained intel on Sollozzo and the Tattaglia family, then skipped right back to the Corleone family. The correct answer here is that Theo Epstein is a douche bag and doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.

I had a diatribe written out about how I couldn't figure out what Vito wanted by sending Luca to infiltrate the other family, then I realized Luca would've ostensibly given the Corleone family information that allowed them to be one step ahead of Sollozzo and Tattaglia.

There's a new version called "The Godfather Saga" that came out last month and is currently playing on Showtime or HBO or one of the other premium networks. It's edited so the story is in chronological order, and it has some footage that was not part of the theatrical releases. If you've got seven hours to kill, I highly-recommend it.

I had never heard of this version until a friend, who had never seen the movies, watched and preceded to tell me that he didn't understand all the hype about Godfatger II because the best parts of the movie were those with DeNiro and he was done after the first couple of hours.

Oh man that's straight out of "Young Guns" Right there!!!
I read that article with some ? that just got bigger and bigger..... What is godfather about what? He wanted to stay so he took a 1 year deal instead of a 3 year deal? Or him walking on the field with a GM? Is that the Godfather part? And if so, that makes Theo a pretty arrogant son of a bitch yes?
Now if he brought the head of a prized horse on the field with him, I'd see the connection.

I don't know how your buddy made it to a certain age without seeing either of the first two movies. You almost have to try to avoid them. And as great as De Niro is as young Vito, Marlon Brando's portrayal of middle aged Vito is the best display of acting in the history of cinema.
