I played little league with a kid named Peter Chabot. If you grooved one, he could hit it a mile, but he missed everything over his head. He literally couldn't help himself. By the time we got to Babe Ruth, we were on different teams and every pitch I threw him was about eight feet off the ground.
The other thing about him was he was the first person in my high school class who had a noticeably receding hairline. I bet he was completely bald by the time he was 30.

Every coach I ever had took the fattest kid and stuck him at clean-up regardless if he could hit or not. I played with a kid in high school who was about 6-foot-6, 280 pounds and it was all blubber. He was also the biggest crybaby, as he would miss all of practices with an injury, then magically heal up for games. Somehow he made it to the varsity squad despite completing about three practices. The very first practice after varsity had been assigned, he dove (read: tumbled) after a ball in right field and "hurt" his "ingrown toenail." Like Willis Reed, he was back at it for the first game 10 days later despite never practicing. And he was hitting fifth in the lineup. Surprisingly, the varsity team was not very good.

At least Waino's bat is in the lineup.

Re: 5/2 GC

My high school team was terrible. We won less than ten games in three years. We had a couple of things against us right off the bat. We were in a really good league, and because it was an affluent town, a lot of kids went to private schools.
The only assets we had were our catcher - who ended up going to a D2 college in Florida on a baseball scholarship - and our centerfielder/leadoff hitter who wasn't a baseball player but he could run. He was a good enough bunter and took pitches well enough to have an on base percentage of about .500. My role was to take enough pitches for him to steal second, get him over to third and then have our catcher drive him in.
And we had some misfortune. The two kids in my grade who would have been our best two pitchers never played high school baseball. One of them died in a car accident about three days before the start of our sophomore year, and the other destroyed his shoulder playing football in the ninth grade.

When the Cardinals are ahead, that's called a "lead," correct?

I quit after my sophomore year, which was a torturous experience with a coach who absolutely despised me. It was one of those situations where if it could go wrong, it did go wrong. I pissed him off when I got detention for sitting on a desk in art class, which meant the entire team had to run poles. Then it just escalated. He repeatedly mocked me in front of the team. He started making me fetch foul balls. One day I threw one back in the field that barely missed him and he just stared me down. When I took BP later, he was throwing well inside. The experience was just mentally breaking me. The downfall came when I was given the task of collecting the equipment after a game and left it outside. Luckily it didn't get stolen, but the seniors on the team basically kicked me off the team. I was essentially given the choice of getting my ass kicked every day for the rest of the season or quitting. My high school career ended with a 1.000/1.000/1.000 line with one RBI and one run scored in three JV plate appearances. That coach is STILL there 14 years later, and he's had one district championship in that time.

One of aspects of baseball I never liked was the almost constant negativity. I mean really. If you get one hit in three at bats, you're a star. If you get 33 percent on a math test, you're an abject failure.
My high school coach was a combination of nerves, insecurity, general stupidity and baseball stupidity. He never once changed pitchers in the middle of an inning. I don't know why. Maybe he thought someone in the stands would yell something negative at him if he popped his head out of our dugout. The only remotely constructive advice he ever gave me was to throw strikes and tuck in my shirt.
He coached for more than 30 years and never won anything. The 1970 team made it to a sectional final behind a pitcher named Ace Adams who went on to become a minor league pitching instructor for several organizations, including the Cardinals, but most years his record was around 5-15. And he was inducted into the state coaches hall of fame. I don't know why. I think he was popular with the other coaches because they beat him so often. I think three of his former players showed up to the hall of fame ceremony, and one of them was his son.
He's still to this day the most deleterious influence on my life. When I got to college, I had to learn how to trust my coach there, because I was so accustomed to trying to ignore every negative thing my high school coach said. In college, it was like "Wow. This coach is trying to help me get better."

Adams has been hitting the ball well of late so ill back off him...i still say the team is better without wong.  Trade him and seap defensive positions when peralta returns.

"I know i said piscotty could play cf this summer and got told i was wrong.  I havent seen him play there.  How does he look?"

No worse that Grichuk did last Monday in Phoenix, when he took routes that make it seem he was a six-pack in to a beer league softball game.
I think centerfield is the easiest of the three outfield positions defensively. It's easier to read the ball off the bat than it is in one of the corner outfield spots, and the ball doesn't tend to hook or slice as dramatically as it does to right or left.

Well maybe if your comparing two players of the same athletic ablity.  I wouldnt advise putting holliday in center and selling it as an easier position to play

The best defensive position for Holliday is the on deck circle.
