God wants him to play out the contract.

Same God that told Ted Cruz he would be the next President?

God appears to have a sense of humor. Unlike Ted.

I have zero confidence in him.  Remind me again when he was good?

Re: 5/10 GC

Wong is a 10 HR, 20 SB second baseman. There aren't many second basemen with that capability.

With that said, he's struggling terribly right now. Between signing his long term deal and the Gyorko trade, he's so deep in his own head it's crazy.

Re: 5/10 GC

Wong's psyche is more fragile than Garcia's, and that's saying something.
It's going to be interesting to see what happens when Peralta is healthy, because Peralta is going to play somewhere. And Diaz is going to play somewhere as long as he keeps hitting.
I don't know what Wong's options are, but if you send him down, you're going to lose him. If you haven't lost him already with his reduced role so far this year.

Carp isnt a third baseman and there are no second baseman capable of doing what he is doing.  Ive always thought it was stupid to make the very best second baseman a middle of the pack third baseman.

Re: 5/10 GC

Carpenter was as much of a second baseman as Skip Shumaker.  Third base is his natural position.  And he'd be far from the best second baseman.

I thought he played the position cleaner then third.  Im not the best at understanding defensive metrics so idk more then i remember.  I will say if third is his nature position, he naturally isnt very good at playing it.

Re: 5/10 GC

I agree Carpenter isn't a good defensive third baseman.  But he only played second base because, at the time, the Cardinals had Freese playing third.  They moved Freese to acquire Bourjos, which didn't work out (though it also brought Grichuk). Keeping Carpenter at second would have meant playing Descalso everyday at third.  The team was better with Carpenter/Wong than it would have been with Carpenter/Descalso.

I'll be the first to admit, I didn't think Carpenter had the power to be a good third baseman, but if he can regularly his 20+ HR (and it appears he can), he has enough power to play the position.  Now if Matheny and Carpenter would accept that the team would be better if he didn't bat lead off, maybe we'd be on to something.
