I just saw it. Well, fors called this one. he didn't even get two more starts, and he might have had three if the Cards had been in contention.
Ironically, the press still refers to the slim hopes of teams like the White & Red Sox, and they are in a similar position to the Cards, but the collapse since mid-August has made us radioactive. We are just one big ugly unpleasant story: a giant stinking amorphophallus flower shoving our obscene shape and disgusting smell high into the sky as conspicuously as ever Chanticleer could crow.

Dan and Al announced near the start of the game that Hi Mae would only miss one start. According to Jim Hayes, he released the story too soon and that made Tony made at him because it made Hi Mae mad TLR, or Duncan, or Mo, or maybe everyone in St. Louis and he did what rookies now do in St. Louis and demanded that they retract, which they did.
According to Dan and Al, Hi Mae didn't want to let his teammates down. I can't recall which one made the statement and which one said "Sure" or "No doubt about it." But I do know that it was one or the other. In fact, I'd know if I hadn't heard it.
I hope that the real reason isn't because of some damn incentive clause in Hi Mae's contract or because he's been reading the internet boards and found out that the real purpose of playing the games is to be ROY.

I have heard similar rumors on another board that there has definitely been some confusion on the Jaime Garcia shutdown affair . Soon to be called SHUTDOWNGATE

So now it's shutdown for 1 start ? This is ridiculous .
Not at all. Don't you follow politics??? Prevaricate!!!
Remember how Obama was going to shutdown Guantanamo? Then it needed study first, and then trying the dudes held there, and then . . . shit it's still open with no plans at all to shut it down.
Jaime will miss one start because of fatigue. Let's face it, his effectiveness has maybe dropped a tad. Then, come September 27, or whatever, when we are 13.5 games out of first place, the issue will be revisited. If he has a decent shot at ROTY, he'll go; if not, the "shutdown" will become permanent.
And now, to link back to classic rock:
Yes, the Boys of Summer WERE awesome and, yes, they played their instruments . . . WELL!
(happy) (happy) (happy) (happy) (happy) (happy) (happy) (happy) (happy) (happy) (happy) (happy) (happy)

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Dennis Wilson HAD to have had a different father from Brian and Carl? (wink)

Hi Mae
Now, Mags, I know you don't need a lecture on sensitivity to diverse cultural environments, and a part of me thinks I should wait until morning, when we are both sober, but I feel the need to remind you that when you communicate like this, people could it interpret it to mean that you are making fun of his name, and thus his ethnicity . . . and we don't do that in America . . . anymore . . . in public-ish places.

They should shut him down for the season. In fact they should give the whole pitching staff the rest of the year off. I mean the offense took a 3 month break so why cant the pitching take a little nap at the end.

"La Russa said that if Garcia has "good life" during a bullpen session this weekend, he could be scheduled for at least one more start.
"He may want to pitch to enhance his chances (for Rookie of the Year) but doesn't want to jeopardize his career," said La Russa." - - - Goold/Hummel
Tommy John, innings, fatigue, ROY, .................... scrabble anyone ?
